Android has grown at an amazing pace in the past year, and so has our reader base. With that in mind, we have a simple question for our readers: how long have you been an Android owner? Were you one of the 'Droid front-runners, or did you join the game a bit later? Sound off in the poll below, and feel free to share some details in the comments below.

It been since April that I have my Nexus S, which is my first Android smartphone, but I've owned the Archos 5 IT (320GB HDD) for more than a year before that, and then bought the Archos 32 (8GB) as a multimedia device.

The Archos 5 was somewhat dissapointing, only running on Android 1.6, but the Archos 32 at least got an upgrade to Android 2.2. I wanted to have a vanilla Android experience out of the box, so I stopped my choice on the Nexus S.

  • Simon Belmont

I got my Sprint HTC Hero in early February of 2010! Still rocking it and still loving it.

I got my B&N Nook Color in December 2010. Android number two in my family. My wife and I will be upgrading soon, to a Sprint HTC EVO 4G and Sprint HTC EVO 3D respectively. Woo!

  • shaneaus

  • http://twitter.com/randy_wrecked Randy D.

Bought a G1 on day one and I've been loyal ever since. In fact, just upgraded to a G2 in March of this year.

  • dre

Pre order T-Mobile G1. Remember when we didn't have video recording or virtual keyboard? Lol!

  • montgoss

The Openmoko Neo Freerunner was my first Android device. I guess that wasn't specifically an Android device, but I had Android installed on that phone for months before the Motorola Droid hit Verizon and then grabbed the Droid on launch day.

  • http://rootandroid.net Root Android

    I am having a collection. :)

  • Jaime

Saw the video of the Nexus One when it was unveiled. Watched every single video of it in action. Waited 4 months for it to come to Verizon. When it never did I got a Droid Incredible. I think the date was May 5th. Beginning of the most amazing phone I've ever touched.

  • Nathan

    Day 1 with a G1 (^_^)

Now, Mytouch 3G, Nexus One (current) nook color and an asus transformer

  • nick

Got my OG Droid in Feb. 2010, then in November when rumors began to escelate Verizon was ditching unlimited data, I left. Picked up my shiny new Evo from sprint that I still rock today running CM7. I also got a WiFi Xoom in May. I love android like a child and am never going to let go. I never thought I could be so loyal to a mobile OS.

  • Coco hime

Wow lots of OG G1 owners here.

I found out about the greatness of Android much later. Bought a used Cliq for myself as a bday present to update my relic Razr about 7 months ago. Just wanted an easier way to txt but quickly found out how useful everything about Android was! Now I can't imagine being without Android as I use it for so much in day to day life. Just wish I jumped on the bandwagon years ago.

  • http://www.ajd.us Aaron

Waited, seemingly forever, for the first VZW LTE device (ended up being the ThunderBolt) before making the jump to a smart phone. Even though the wait was long I couldn't justify getting an expensive 3G device with LTE "right around the corner" and so stuck with my old clamshell for much longer than I would have liked...

  • http://robert.aitchison.org Robert Aitchison

Got a G1 the week it was released.

  • Paul

I envied the G1 but still felt it was lacking, so I held off. The Droid from Verizon really caught my attention but still held back. But when I saw the Nexus One I couldn't resist. Got the wife a Cliq, the sister-n-law a Behold II, and I got the Nexus One. Loved that thing. Wife hated her Cliq so I eventually sold it and picked her up a MyTouch 3G Slide. Solid phone. Now I'm running a T-Mobile G2 (HTC Vision [LOVE IT]) and wife's running a HD2 (Modified of course). My next phone may be a Galaxy SII or a MyTouch 4G Slide; if my work plays along I may actually end up with both (drool).

    • Paul

Before the N1 though, I used, Windows Mobile 6.5; ick! But it was better than an iPhone IMHO at the time. I've never owned an iPhone. The ATT Tilt aka HTC TyTN II or Kaiser, was my phone before the Nexus One. Heavily modded. I have to say though, I wish they'd bring that 'Tilt' concept back to smart phones, it was more handy than I could have imagined.

  • L boogie

Went from an enV2 to droid incredible to join the android universe then, discovered customizing my phone along with rooting via cm7 (currently running 2.3.4) and I'm very thankful to watch the universe grow and to be a part of the ascending success it's become.

  • José chamorro

    Day one of the G1.

  • http://none madroid

Got my G1 about a month after it came out, then moved to sprint, bought HTC HERO,THEN evo 4G,now waiting for my evo 3D....."ANDROID TILL THE WORLD BLOWS UP" : )

  • GraveUypo

i have been watching it for quite some time.
my brother had a milestone 1 for quite some time and i always felt "wow this is ALMOST amazing. it can ALMOST do so many cool things".

then this year i finally got what i think is the best starter android phone i could, a motorola defy. it can do most of the stuff the milestone could almost do. i didnt have plans to upgrade so soon (was planning to keep it for 3 or 4 years like my previous cellphones) but i don't think i can hold off that long. i'll hold back as long as i can tho

  • GergS

Heard of the N1, got really excited, once it was released for AT&T bought it full-price online. Kept it for half a year and sold it for $600, ho ho ho!

Then got G1(money issues), these days on the G2.

  • CodeMonkey

    G1 baby!..

    Then Magic, Nexus One

Now Atrix and soon a tablet...

  • humberto

G1!, MT3G slide, galaxy s Vibrant , NEXUS ONE (BEST PHONE EVER) , G2, MT4G, and current proud owner of the Sensation 4g.

  • Tony

Definitely been an android owner since the beginning. Switched over from Blackberries. I've had the G1, a motorola cliq xt, the original mytouch, the mytouch 3G slide, & the mytouch 4G. Now trying to decide if I want the mytouch 4G slide, or the Sensation.

  • Mike

I couldnt decide between Android and IPhone. SO glad I went Android. I WILL NOT own anything else now :D

  • http://www.appsbybirbeck.com/ Stewart

When iPhone was announced I just thought it was lame, Android was the first smartphone OS to interest me so I started by standing in line on launch day to buy the G1 sight unseen, then I got the Nexus One. Pre-ordered the Evo 4G, then got a Nexus S 4G. Pre-ordered the Evo 3D which is my current phone, waiting for the next Nexus.

Sitting on my desk right now I have 2 G1's, Evo 4G, Nexus S 4G, Evo 3D, Xoom, and a Galaxy Tab 10.1. It's been fun watching Android grow and playing my part by developing quality software for it which would not be possible on iOS.

  • Droidette

My first Android phone was the Captivate and now own the Infuse. Came from a Blackberry and so glad I made the plunge.

  • Vince

    Had the G1 since day 1. :D

  • Chito

As soon as T-mobile sold the Tmobile G1 in Holland I had one! And since then always had Android powered devices

  • Ken

Hero, Nexus 1, Xperia X10, GALAXY S, Desire HD, GALAXY Tab, Flyer, XOOM....

I think that pretty much sums up my Android life :D

  • Josh

Proud owner of galaxy s2 as of today :D

  • Dominik

Got a used G1 on Craigs list in early 2009 and haven't looked back. Since then: Nexus One, G2 and Asus Transformer. Couldn't be happier with the devices.

  • carnegie0107

G1 since day 1, and rooted since JesusFreke was baking the first few cupcakes. Switched to CyanogenMod as an interesting alternative, and I've run every single stable/beta/RC and hundreds of nightlies on my G1, Nexus One, S, and Evo.

  • Jazam2010

Nexus One was my first Android Phone, then an EVO till now.

  • SalaHyena

I had had HTC Desire for four days, and it got ran over by car. Then I switched to N900, which is more malleable(read: Editable) than Android, but I still miss iPhone2G's Smoothness, and HTC Desire's Fastness. My Next phone would be android ,one with Physical QWERTY, if my N900 ever broke down or would be too old to use anymore.

  • http://fc1032.blogspot.com Brian

Got my Nexus one in April last year =)

  • http://androidpolice Old Dave

Wow, just loving android ! . . . new user 3 to 6 months . . . my Nexus S has totally blown away all previous phones i have owned . . . so NOT going back to anything else . . .

  • Rockerode

Bought the G1 about a month after it was released. Still had 1.5, I still remember getting the upgrade to 1.6 and how happy I was. Then the N1 came out and it was such a huge leap forward. I was so sad when I didn't get 2.0/2.1. Then various stuff happened and I was able to get a Nexus one! Now my contract came up, sold my N1 and now own an HTC Sensation. Never leaving android. EVER

  • isaacz
