Two week ago, Google changed up its mobile homepage to bring quick access to Google Place, along with some other new features. It looks like the mobile landing page has gotten yet another update today, making specific searches easier on the small screen. Have a look:

As you can you see, images and a tab-like interface have been added to the top of the page, making it much easier to quickly tap exactly what you're looking for. This is one of the more practical features that I've seen rollout, as it previously took a bit of precision to change search options. It seems that the updated homepage is rolling out in stages, as I was able to pull it up on OG Droid, but I couldn't get it on my fiancee's Droid X.

Google is moving away from the simple interface that differed from all other search engines,
I am not a fan of how cluttered the new google is starting to become

      I agree; it looks junked-up.

Is that a screenshot you took? What theme is that? I don't recognize that Status Bar...

    • Cameron Summerson

Yes. The theme is JAMT by ClassicalGas. You can get it in the Market... I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the fast reply Cameron!
*edit. I'm not seeing this in the Market...
*edit2: I'm an idiot. Thanks again.

          No problem. ;)

I've had those icons up there since the new mobile homepage was updated 2 weeks ago.

Working on the Stock browser, not on Dolphin HD. Thunderbolt

I wonder if Ice Cream Sandwich will use the same icons / theme?

  • 123

you could finally use multitouch on the page lol, though there's no point.

  • Scott

The site's been like that for at least a week.

  • ben

Working on dolphin HD rooted DroidX running gingerbread.

  • Félix

It looks nice, but also a bit crowded, on my Nexus One. Maybe they're thinking on bigger screens ;)

  • Matt

I think the new homepage is crappy ... By the time I click on the search bar the icons have finally loaded and I always click on the news button .... Very annoying

    • Ugh

      Same here. New page sux

  • Monkey Giblets

Cluttered, but fine if you're in a decent area of 3G style coverage. Rural parts of UK, on Vodafone, takes for ever & a day to load the page, plus uses bandwidth.

Plz to go back to simple fast homepage.
