This week has definitely been the week of the Droid X - after about a year of being on the market, the magic of the "2nd init" hack allowed for the first ever unofficial build of CyanogenMod 7 on this popular U.S. device. Only days after the momentous announcement, the Droid X CyanogenMod, led by the great cvpcs, is now part of the official CM source tree and served nightly from the CM mirror network.

Definition: A "nightly" is a bleeding edge release that is built on a daily basis, usually at night after a full day's worth of new code has been committed.

It could oftentimes be unstable and not properly tested, lacking any changelogs, but eventually evolving into alphas, betas, release candidates, and finally stable releases.

To grab the latest nightly, head over to the nightly download page on a daily basis or flash directly from ROM Manager (the device name is cdma_shadow). If you need further instructions, visit the RC0 announcement from earlier this week and read up on all the gotchas.

Even though technically there is no official changelog for nightlies, you can monitor some of the commits at the unofficial cdma_shadow cm-nightlies appspot page.

Read the full announcement by cvpcs here and praise his incredible communication skills - every one of his posts is a marvel aimed at both noobs and pros alike. Bravo, cvpcs, we need more folks like you in the community.

Congratulations to Droid X owners, you're now really part of the club.

AFAIK, Camera and GPS are still busted on CM7 for the DX, but there's a somwhat-fix available for GPS and using an alternative camera app apparently works for the camera problem.

Just flashed my friends DX with the CM. Everything works (camera, GPS, YT).

Rooted with Z4root, ran Droid X Recovery Bootstrapper, installed Clockwork, and installed CM from the package on the forums.

Going to try a Droid X2 also this weekend.
