Update: According to Engadget, it was just a miscommunication - the VZW spokeswoman was actually referring to the Galaxy Tab 10.1. We knew it was too good to be true.

If there's one device that a lot of us have been waiting on to hit US soil, it's the Samsung Galaxy S II. Reportedly called the Function, Attain, and Within on Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint respectively, this phone has been hotly anticipated ever since its debut at MWC back in February.

ComputerWorld has gotten unofficial word from a "Verizon spokeswoman" that this phone will be hitting Big Red sometime in July. No specific date was mentioned, but this is still welcome news -- if it is to be believed, that is. I see no reason why someone associated with Verizon will publicly lie or falsify information, so for now, we'll just sit back and wait for the official presser from Big Red itself.

Whoop whoop whoop. Even though it's unconfirmed and Verizon gives terrible release time tables this news excites me.

Sprint version, and I'm there in a heartbeat (as long as it doesn't have a fat physical keyboard).

    • Product F(RED)

According to someone on XDA who has a source inside of Sprint, it doesn't have a keyboard and it's supposedly amazing, so now I'm wondering whether or not to hold off on the Evo 3D.

Also, it's supposed to come out on or around July 24th.

Awesome news, now I could only hope it's not drenched in useless bloatware cuz THIS IS MY NEXT PHONE from vzw though the Bionic is very tempting

  • ocdtrekkie

Droid 1 is really slow now, if Galaxy S2 beats the Bionic to release, I'd definitely consider it. Any idea if they'll put an LTE chip in it? (Since it needs a different chip for Verizon anyhow)

Yea, if this comes to sprint, I'm going to have a tough decision to make between this and the Evo 3d. I love my current Evo, but I might want to try something new.

I believe LTE only needs a SIM card ... as it uses some GSM technology

  • L boogie

A lil disappointed about the 4g side of the equation otherwise it's a super sexy beast of a phone

    • Cameron Summerson

Nothing to be disappointed about (yet) - we're not sure if it's 4G LTE or not.

  • Chankyu92

Galaxy S2 wont have LTE. LTE radios are too big to fit in the ultra slim S2.

    • IamBeast

If it doesn't have the LTE radio inside of it, I'm going to cry :(. The Droid Bionic is too big...4.5 inch screen if the rumors turn out to be true. And VZW doesn't yet have any dual core LTE phones :(. I hope Samsung pulls through and somehow fits a LTE radio inside.

    Bing search anyone?

Engadget is saying it was a misspeak, that the spokesperson was referring to the Galaxy Tab 10.1

    • Cameron Summerson

      The post has been updated.

Honestly, we were all a little skeptical of this in the first place (if you couldn't tell by the tone of post).

      It is indeed unfortunate.

Yeah I thought NOT Verizon has nothing that is kool on there network...

I'd have to bet it is still July since iPhone5 is no where in site. Plenty of "would be" upgraders to sell to since Apple is too tight lipped about their next product. People who are ready to upgrade now do not want to hear Q4 2011 or 2012.
