Update: Link to the de-odexed version added. Happy flashing!

That was fast. Yes, you can get a fully rooted, de-odexed, and flashable version of the official EVO 4G Gingerbread update right here, right now, thanks to Haus over at XDA. If you're already a rooted user, you've probably got a pretty good idea how to go about flashing this. If you aren't, hit up our primers - linked above. Also, please be sure to wipe the dalvik cache before flashing this ROM.

This link is, for now, for an odexed version - meaning support for theming, battery % indicators, and other UI modifications is not present. A de-odexed version is on the way shortly. We'll be uploading these files to our own mirrors - just as soon as we finish downloading them ourselves!

Also, you'll probably want to download and flash the official radio image for the update, as this ROM does not include it (the new kernel is included, though).

Flashed and working! Breaks Netflix app though.

How does this compare to CM7? Is there a need to do this if you're already on CM7?

    • David Ruddock

Just if you want Sense or some of the Sprint/HTC-installed apps, basically.

  • CJ

Wow my GPS does not work ... :/

  • Chad

So far, my 3G data has frozen 3 times and I have to turn off Mobile Network, and turn it back on to get it going again. Anyone else?

Does it matter whether I flash the ROM or Radio first?

  • Josh

It's rooted (I can boot into recovery, etc.), but I can't uninstall the bloatware...

    • Jason

Install Titanium Backup (free) allow super user rights, click backup/restore, find app, long press select uninstall.... works great.

I saw that the with the offical rom you cannot use netflix anymore. is that the case with this version?

  • MrsW0nderful

my evo was rooted with froyo, added titanium and super root and rom manager. i loaded the odexed version and it worked fine, until I turned my phone off. Turned back on and gmail wouldnt work, and i couldnt uninstall with out using titanium to do it. reinstall gmail now every time i turn my phone off and on gmail is gone and I have to repeat the process. initially 4g was working but now its not its stuck "turning on" going back to froyo until I can figure this one out. :(

I have a rooted Evo and I cannot even get the software to boot after a successful installation. I downloaded the deodexed version. Ran the installation through the ROM Manager. Everything was successful. The only thing I didn't do was move the .zip file to the "root" folder. Does that really matter? None the less, luckily I backed everything up first. That would have been a huge dump. Back on Froyo for now until someone can shed some light on wha the issue is I am experiencing.

There's a new "Fast Boot" option built in. With that turned on, even with combination, you can't boot into recovery. To turn it off, from the home screen, settings -> applications> uncheck the "Fast Boot" option and you should be able to into recovery after that.

      • rhotwire

Thanks that fixed my problem sir!!

  • Brian

I'm sorry for asking, but as a noob, what do I do with that radio zip? I'm suffering from there being too much info to sift through :-(

  • Deyve

I did my first rom flash thanks to you guys but now my netflix is not streaming

  • Bob C

flashed the deodexed version and everything worked fine, the I rebooted and had to re-login to Gmail, was unable to connect to my router via wi-fi, and lost my data (internet) connection completely. After trying for hours to get it working again, I will be going back to CM7. I was really looking forward to having Sense again too... (*sigh).

Would someone be better off to unroot, then install the update directly from Sprint and then reroot the phone afterward to avoid so many of the problems listed above? Just a thought.

    • SKB

If you're rooted and running a rooted stock 2.2, you can just wipe dalvik and cache NOT data. That's convenient.

Also, don't forget to flash the new radios.

  • wobbles

i was not rooted at all and i updated to 2.3 via sprint. is this what im looking for to root? or do i need to go back to froyo to root then install this?

    • eric

Not possible to downgrade. Or root until the developers can build a root method. Give it some time we will root again.

I just took some time to look everything over. I flashed the rom and radios but the radio version numbers don't match up. I had no problem with the install but software info shows other radios. Any ideas??

  • Eddie Z

Found the prob...Had to use amonra to do the radios.

  • Francisco

I flashed the ROM and Radio, works great. The only problem I have, which I didn't before when I was running Evervolv Gingerbread for about 6 months, is USB tethering. I used to be able to plug my phone to my laptop and do USB tether and use my phone as an internet connection. Any ideas how to fix this?

  • Eddie Z

Anybody know if this is supposed to allow N wireless? I don't see it in the hardware list.
