Earlier this month, we got a hold of a Gingerbread leak for the LG G2x, and all seemed pretty official with that build, so we expected to see an official announcement fairly soon after. It's been a few weeks now, and while nothing concrete has surfaced from T-Mo, we now have a little more info on what's gong down:

Yeah... summer is pretty vague. Is that the beginning of summer? Or the end? We can't say for sure - but at least we have a little better idea of when the update may actually hit.

In the Android world, privacy is a huge concern for most users. We've seen our fair share of malicious software, questionable apps, and out-of-place permission requests. If privacy is something that you hold near-and-dear to your heart, then we have an app for you.

This app is for rooted users only!

It's called LBE Privacy Guard, and in a way, it's quite similar to UAC (User Account Control) in Windows. Basically, LBE "listens" for your apps to request certain permissions and then pings you with a dialog asking to either grant or deny access. For example, if you ...

A few days ago, we told you that Google was most likely going to announce a mobile payment service using NFC. Today, that announcement is official, and it's called Google Wallet. Wallet is exactly what the name suggests: a payment service that aggregates all of your credit cards, coupons, loyalty cards, and more, into your Android phone. You can then not only use your phone to pay, but it will also enter your customer loyalty information automatically, as well as redeem any coupons that are loaded into your Wallet using NFC (near field communication).

Here are a few bullets about ...

Remember that version of the Wall Street Journal app that was made for Android tablets (but not Honeycomb tablets)? Yeah, it didn't make a whole lot of sense to us, either. Fortunately, the folks over at the WSJ have finally decided to release an app specifically designed for phones.

Now you can access everything that you love about the WSJ from the palm of you hand. Don't have time to read an article as soon as you see it? No worries, the app allows you to save articles so you can read them later. If you're in the ...

Official word from Asus is that they can't make enough Transformers to keep up with demand, something that's perhaps not surprising given that the tablet maintains high-end specs but a low-end price. Luckily for some users, keeping a hawkish eye on (r)etailer's websites has allowed them to snatch one up when the seller was lucky enough to get a few in stock. Now, however, there's an easier way, called NowInStock.

The service keeps tabs on a whole host of retailers and checks the stock situation every minute so that it's always up to date. Not only that, but as ...

Up until now, there have been two types of music services to choose from (aside from local media, of course) - streaming radio like Pandora or Slacker, or personal content streaming with services like Google Music or Amazon Cloud Player. mSpot is looking to change the game, however, by combining the two.

The updated mSpot Music app really is a great idea - it combines your personal music collection with streaming music discovery radio. This is the type of service that I have wanted for quite some time now, because while I love to listen to my own music collection, ...

It's no secret that Minecraft, a simple, yet amazingly addictive and immersive game, is coming to Android - we've been hearing about it for months. It's also no secret that the first version, exclusive to Xperia Play, will be unveiled at E3 in just a few weeks - the conference is scheduled for June 7th-9th.

However, what exactly the game would look and play like on a mobile Android device when it is released was unknown... until today that is, when the developer, Mojang, released the first ever video of the gameplay on the web. Minecraft fans, brace ...

Update 3: Swype has contacted us to clarify the following:

Swype does not, and will not ever make money off of the data it collects from you.  They do not sell ads.  They do not sell information. The comment made on the CM review forum was a generalization about the larger Android app developer community, and in no way was intended to imply that Swype uses your data for ad revenue.

Update 2: Here's what Swype Community Representative Brian Resnik has to say about all this:

Sprint

Invigorating news out of the (virtual) Sprint press rooms today: the nation's third-largest national carrier is teaming up with none other than Motorola for an "exclusive luncheon event" on June 9. The invite itself was decidedly vague about any possible announcements, only confirming that both Dan Hesse and Sanjay Jha will be at the event and that there will be "hands-on demonstrations of Sprint and Motorola's latest collaborations."

But fortunately for the impatient amongst us, the rumor mill never stops turning, and TechnoBuffalo has heard from a "very well-positioned source" that the highlight of the event will be the Photon ...

Do you like steak? No? Then get out of this post right now - because it's Steak Time.

Omaha Steaks has had their popular app "Steak Time" on iOS for a while now, and it was only a matter of time before an Android version emerged. That day has come, and now Android users can grill with the best of 'em.

I know what you're thinking, "this is probably some gimmicky app that just wants me to buy overpriced Omaha Steaks." But you're wrong - it's so much more. First and foremost, Steak Time does what its name implies: it ...

We've talked about a few different Twitter clients designed specifically for Honeycomb in the past, but none have been so anticipated as Tweetcaster HD. The standard Tweetcaster (for phones) has been a long time favorite app of Twitter users because of it's super-rad zip it feature, which gives you the ability to block tweets by keyword, so you can ignore annoying tweets without having to un-follow anyone. Now, along with several other nice features, you can have this functionality on your Honeycomb tablet!

How many of you out there have taken a picture only realize later that, as you were snapping the photo, somebody totally photobombed you, there is an ugly light pole in the distance, or a hobo was giving you the finger in the background? All of you, you say? Well, boy howdy, have I got an app for you! No longer will you need to employ this supposed "skill" that people claim to have in photography, nor will you need to "pay attention" when taking photos. I can barely pay my cell phone bill, let alone attention to things I'm ...
