HTC Sensation

Update: It has been confirmed by T-Mobile that the Sensation 4G will cost $199.99 on a two-year contract after a $50 mail-in rebate. Still no word on off-contract pricing, however.

It doesn't come as much of a surprise, but T-Mobile has finally announced the release date of the long-awaited Sensation 4G - by June 15 at T-Mobile retail stores, and as early as June 12 at select Wal-Mart locations. Unfortunately, T-Mobile didn't provide anything in the way of pricing, but we'll certainly be hearing about that in the coming days. For a quick reminder of specs on this beast of a phone:

  • 1.2 GHz dual core Snapdragon processor
  • 4.3" qHD (960 x 540) display
  • Android 2.3 with Sense 3.0
  • 768 MB RAM
  • 8 megapixel camera with LED flash
  • 1080p video capture
  • HSPA+ "4G"
  • 1520 mAH battery

Remember, the full press release puts the release date as "by June 15," so there's a good chance that you'll be seeing the Sensation 4G in stores before that date. For full details, check out the press release in the source link below.

    yawn, same old, same old

Still might be my next phone, although first I'd like to know whether the bootloader will be unsigned, and also what screen technology/type it's using, after the Droid X2 issues.

slcd, most likely signed like all 2nd/3rd gen Htc phones

Well, it's part of the same generation as the EVO 3D, which HTC just confirmed will be unsigned 'one way or another.' The Sensation's already gone on sale in non-US markets though, unlike the EVO, and no official statements about the ability to boot custom ROMs has been given.

My question about the screen is whether it uses the same RGBW PenTile matrix as the Droid X2. PenTile on LCD concerns me much more than PenTile on AMOLED/SAMOLED.

This is a great device for tmobile and current customers should be more than happy to have this device. It will be better than the GX2 no question the close cousin of the evo 3d is ready to roll into the android stable.

Mobile City Online is already taking pre-orders for the phone, listing it at $599.99. I can't say for sure, but I would imagine T-Mobile wouldn't be too far off that price.
