When it comes to podcasting applications on Android, there are certain ones that stand above the rest. Among those, BeyondPod Podcast Manager may be the top dog, and for this weekend only, you can score this awesome app for just $1.99 as opposed to the usual $6.99.

Note from Artem: I've been a fan of BeyondPod for over a year now and use it for managing, syncing, and listening to my podcasts exclusively. Listen? What Listen?

BeyondPod is packed full of features (so many, I just had to use bullet points. I do love bullet points):

  • Full Google Reader integration and sync
  • both audio and video supported, or just use it as an RSS reader
  • Complete podcast control: how many to download, when to download, and how many to store. It can even turn on your Wi-Fi, download your podcasts, then turn off Wi-Fi
  • Auto-delete podcasts after they've been played
  • Smart playlists: creates playlists based on your listening preference.
  • Podcast categories (technology, sports, etc.)
  • Compact (1x1) and full (4x1) homescreen widgets (for those out there that use Listen, you'll know that not having a widget is undeniably annoying)
  • ...and much, much more.

Yeah, this podcatcher is about as full-featured as they come, and no wonder - it's been in development for over a year now.

It normally costs $6.99 (which is quite steep relative to Market prices, even considering how much it can actually do), so make sure to jump on this deal before the weekend is over!

Bonus: Using a tablet? The same key will work on BeyondPod HD, which is available here during the beta test period.

OMG wow. I bought Beyondpod back when my Hero was still pretty new. I got fed up with Listen sucking and I tried all the podcast apps. Beyondpot kicked the living $hit out of everything else. I paid the $7, which I thought was insane, but figured for how much I use it, I'd get my money's worth. And I sure as hell have.

    Bottom line? Buy this thing.

I use Listen on a Droid x, but get frustrated with instability. It does not scrub accurately, and sometimes starts the podcast over with the scrub handle at and point along the bar. Does Beyondpod give more stable performance?

Never had a problem with it that wasn't resolved quickly. The dev is very responsive - just look at the support forums http://groups.google.com/group/beyondpod.

At this point, it does everything I need without bugs.

I don't listen to podcasts a lot so for me listen does the trick nicely for free.

    Anyone try doggcatchter

    • Norbert

doggcatcher is good! i purchased both doggcatcher and beyondpod and i personally prefer doggcatcher (especially if combined with presto)

      • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

        FWIW, both support Presto.

        • Norbert

only the beta one supports presto in my opinion. the version on the market does not yet support it.

I've been using doggcatcher for the longest time. With this program does it save were you left off if you have to stop for any particular reason? can you get it to play as an alarm?

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

It always saves and resumes all your plays - as you see in the screenshots it saved all of my positions throughout multiple episodes of the podcasts I've been listening to.

      Not sure about the alarm.

  • DF

Will it work for podcasts you have to authenticate to such as the coast to coast am podcast?

    • Norbert

yups. both beyondpod and doggcatcher supports http authentication.

I've owned Doggcatcher for such a long time I can;t imagine leaving it for another product as it does everything I seem to need and more. We could do with a feature checklist for these two so we can see which features should have you favouring one over the other.
