UPDATE: ...and it's gone. Did anyone successfully place an order before Amazon pulled the listing?

If you're the type that would rather have a dedicated MP3 player instead of using your phone for such a task, but still want to show your love and support for Android, then you'll be glad to know that the Samsung Galaxy Player 4 is now officially on sale at Amazon for $229.

This 4 inch iPod Touch competitor features a 1GHz processor, 8GB of internal storage with SD card slot (expandable up to 32GB), 3.2 MP rear camera, VGA front camera, Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth, and Android 2.2 with Market access. In short, it's a Galaxy S phone... without the phone (although if can be used to video chat on Skype and Qik using the front facing camera). It also supports a wide variety of media types, including MP3, WMA, Ogg, FLAC, AAC, AVI, MP4, 3GP, WMV, AST, MKV, and FLV, so you should be able to listen to/watch just about anything on this device.

If you plan on picking one of these up, prepare for a bit of a wait. Even though it's available for purchase immediately, Amazon is claiming a 3-6 week shipping delay.

I have a 1st gen ipod touch that is getting pretty old, probably will get one, waiting to see how much the 5" is though $229 is pretty reasonable would be nice if it has 16GB though or a 32Gb

Eeeeuuuwww! Why did the make the back side so ugly? Why didn't they match the theme of the front?

    Looks like Amazon pulled it?

Hrm, I wonder if it was available prematurely. I'm sure it'll be back soon.

  • ErsMerz

could anyone explain me why I would want this?

Its Hardware is outdated, as well as the software and it does not play Music in a special way..

correct me if Im wrong, but I think the iPod plays music way better .. it seems to be more made for music, not just a cut-iphone!

I wouldn't actually call it 'outdated' but It would have been a smashing success if it had come with a dual core processor and a super amoled plus screen and an 8mp camera.

then follow that up with a next gen model that features either a faster dual core or a quad core processor.

    • Aaron

      Well just to start...
Flash, removable storage, better camera then ipod touch, an actual OS that you can manage, no iTunes and more file types supported...
Oh and you are wrong about the ipod playing music better. The quality will be better on the Galaxy Player.

Its still on Best Buys website they have both the 5.0 and the 4.0 listed.

  • Mat

Why is Samsung trying so badly to release these things to steal iPod sales from Apple when they should be selling GSIIs to do just that in what they are already established ... PHONES. ugh ... if they keep waiting people will start hearing about the iPhone5 and decide to wait or simply pass because of the wait.

  • RICO

I'm so excited, can't wait till it comes out! Only wish they would have added an HDMI out and a camera flash. Lastly, wish the had mad it thinner.

  • http://www.gizmodigit.com Alex

Well it was also appeared on Best Buy listing and Gizmo Digit was first to show that cache page:

So we can surly have it by next 1-2 week! Lets wait for while.

    • Zach

On Amazon under history it say the release date is Sept 13 2011

      • Andy

Any update on this? The Interwebs seem eerily quite on the status of this device. Amazon still listing a 9/13/11 release date?

        • Zach

Yes they are but they are now back on Best Buys website
