I'm in the UK, need a new phone this week.. This would have been it...

But locked-down ROM, sorry HTC, I'm off to Samsung after being your customer for 4 years :(

Well, you're the one losing out on a good-no, a great phone lol. If I didn't already have a brilliant phone I'd be looking hard at this phone. Seriously, passing over a phone with this spec sheet because it has a locked ROM is like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I agree it's a great phone... Thing is (and I know this is a unique case...), I've taken my HD2 from Windows Mobile, to Android 2.2, to 2.3, to 2.3.1, and now to 3.0. I've been able to get updates as quickly as possible, as well as enjoy the delights of Cyanogen Mod, MUIU, different HTC Sense flavours, and even Honeycomb. I get that it's mainly because I'm a flashaholic, but at the end of the day my HD2 has been top of the range for two years, and I do not want to rely on a network for my updates.

Getting a new phone is always a gamble, especially on contract, as "the next big thing" is just around the corner, but finally the Sensation felt like a good upgrade. But without the freedom to use my phone as i wish, I can wait until I find one that fits my needs, especially for a two-year-commitment.

At the end of the day, HTC gets my money, and Vodafone would get my money. What I do with the phone should be my choice, even flush it down the loo if I want (which I wouldn't, because, as you say... It's a great phone!)

So it's not a case of cutting off my nose to spite my face, it's more that it doesn't suit my needs, and what irritates is that there's no need for the phone to be locked.

If an unlocked ROM comes out in the next month, then this will still be my choice. If not, it's to Samsung or wait for the quad-cores to roll in this summer.

    Sensation Vs. GSII.

Might have to try both out before I decided. Only problem is I hate a phone which networks load ton's of crap onto. I've been so used to having a minimal ROM on my Desire such as Redux.

But Sense 3.0 is looking quite nice.

Anyone know of any hands-on comparison of both phones?

Getting one on Three in about a month, to go with the unlocked Galaxy S II I've ordered... one month trail each and to eBay with the loser!
