Last Updated: July 18th, 2011

Earlier this week, I dropped a hint on Twitter that we have a few awesome giveaways lined up here at Android Police, and I really wasn't kidding.

To start things off, NVIDIA and Android Police have teamed up to give away a free Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi edition. The dual-core Tegra 2 tablet can be yours - all you have to do is enter by following the rules below.

More great - even better - prizes are coming up shortly, so be sure to keep following Android Police on Twitter, Facebook, and RSS.

And here is the winner (picked at random):

image @keef319 (Keef) from Walkern, United Kingdom, who entered using Twitter on April 23rd with this comment "Go on..Turn from the dark side, Android is your friend," you are now the owner of a brand new XOOM Wi-Fi tablet. Congratulations!

How To Win

This contest is now over. We have selected the winner - see if it's you above.

Entering the giveaway is really simple.

Complete either one of these to be eligible or both to double your chances of winning.

  • Follow @AndroidPolice on Twitter, then tweet out a message that starts with the following phrase and ends with something original you can think of to spice it up - it could be anything mentioning the XOOM, NVIDIA, Android Police, Tegra 2, etc. Just don't forget you only have 140 characters, so make them count:

NVIDIA and @AndroidPolice are giving away a free XOOM Wi-Fi at http://bit.ly/ap-xoom. <PUT YOUR OWN MESSAGE HERE>

  • Like/fan the AndroidPolice fan page on Facebook, then Like the entry for this article and leave a comment on that entry about the XOOM, NVIDIA, Android Police, Android, Tegra 2, or why you should be the one to win. Get creative :-]

Aaaand that's it - there are no other steps this time around. Very easy, as I promised.

The giveaway starts immediately and runs until May 6th, 11:59PM PST.

It is open to residents of the countries specified in the detailed terms and conditions below (not just U.S. - check the list to see if your country is there).

The winner will be selected randomly from the pool of entrants, announced here, and notified via twitter, Facebook, or email.

1 entry per person for each method is allowed (1 for Facebook and 1 for Twitter). Entering more than once on either social site will not increase your chances.

NVIDIA and Android Police will ship the prize to the winner.

See the "Official Rules" below for the exact terms of the contest and eligibility requirements.

International Entrants: Please ensure your country is listed in "1. Eligibility" of the Official Rules, and particularly remember that you will be responsible for any and all import duties, fees, taxes, or other costs (excluding the shipping carrier charge) associated with importing the device into your country, as indicated in "4. Prizes"

Good luck, everyone!

  • http://www.xoomforums.com wicked

    Awesome giveaway!

  • Josh

There has already been a contest like this. I liked and added and did everything possible about AndroidPolice.. Got nothing.. didnt even any information about winners. i think they give away among themselves..

    • http://www.anivision.org Xcom923

I've entered a tone of contests for AP and I've won some things. I assure you it's not "among themselves" as you think.

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

So you've entered a giveaway and didn't win. You're not guaranteed to win if you enter a giveaway, you do realize that, right?

What contest did we run without announcing winners?

  • Angry Andy

    Why is ACT, Australia excluded?
    This sucks!

    • David Ruddock

ACT's Gambling and Racing Commission requires a permit fee for us to conduct a contest or raffle promotion in that territory. Sorry.

  • Abhishek

Sad......No India in the list. China is there but no India :( :(

    • David Ruddock

Laws regarding the shipment of consumer electronics into India prevent us from making that country eligible, sorry.

      • http://techsplurge.com Saket

I wish to know more about those Laws?

  • William

    Good news

But sad, Malaysia not included but neighboring country Singapore is.

    • David Ruddock

Numerous laws surrounding imports in Malaysia make the process of (legally) importing an electronic device to that country complex, particularly a WiFi enabled device.

  • Elias

Argentina allowed, but not Brazil? Neat...

    • David Ruddock

Brazil's import duty and other taxes on consumer electronics of this type end up totalling from 80-100% of the item's value; we can't in good faith tell someone they've won something with that high a cost to them once they actually receive it, sorry.

  • elizabeth cherry

what a great give aways and the xoom is a great machine, pick me please

  • jim

    awesome. thanks AP!

  • Jake

    Awesome Giveaway Artem!

Awesome to see the partnership with Nvidia on this one!

Added my entry to the facebook page!

  • BachinPhx

I would really love me some Xoom lovin'. As opposed to McLovin from SuperBad.

  • Joe

Hey AP, always been a big fan of the site, but could you guys put together a giveaway at some point that does NOT involve using Twitter or Facebook? I mean not everyone actually has the time to waste on retarded social networking sites.

    • Jake

It's a way to help promote AP. Simply put. More traffic for them, and the reward in helping out is prizes like the Xoom :)

      Rock on AP!

      • Joe

Ok, but by doing this they are excluding people who don't use Facedouche and Twatter. It would seem to be most logical if their giveaway promotions would be geared toward as many people as possible, and going this route that clearly doesn't work. I'm quite sure they could still garner the high social network traffic AND make this giveaway available to everyone else, so I don't see why they don't. Oh well, their loss.

        • winner

just make an account for the giveaway and delete it when it's over. simple

  • http://noviceproductions.co.cc Corey C.

    You guys are awesome! :)

  • aj

So pumped about this giveaway. This is probably the one device I've been craving to get my hands on. I wanna take this sexy little thing out for a steak dinner...and let it order an appetizer too!

  • Ashish Raj

Completed both the entries.. and now can't wait till May 6th!! Hope my entries are aren't forgotten by then... Can I enter more than once?? maybe like every day.. or every hour.. or every other min?? **sheepish grin**

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Sorry, only 1 entry per person per method (Twitter, FB).

  • Edwin Reynoso

I want to win this xoom i been in like a ton of give away, this most be my time. lol

  • Prabhjot

sadly no countries from Africa are listed in the terms.. :( . Don't think I will ever actually win anything.

    • David Ruddock

Sorry, the number of potential shipping providers is very small for the African region, and we have not looked into the law regarding the importation of electronics in the many countries on the African continent.

      • IAmTheK

Maybe you should look into it for next time, seeing how Africa has only 3 more countries than Europe, so not as many as u make it sound. And specifically and less than half being English speaking ones. You can start with Ghana, South Africa as it will be relatively easy to find info about those. Thanks

        • David Ruddock

European countries have fairly standardized laws about consumer electronics (see: the EU) and actively works to make international commerce/shipping between Europe-US easier.

Sorry, we'll look into South Africa next time, but I can't say with any confidence we'll be able to add more countries for future contests.

  • rob

why is the Philippines not on the list?

    • David Ruddock

Philippine law requires all items of 500USD declared value or higher (especially electronics) to be stopped at customs, and the recipient must go to customs to pick up the item and pay the import duty fee. The likelihood the prize would never be received is simply too high.

Reliable (US carrier) shipping to the Philippines is also extremely expensive.

  • Lavi

What about EU coutries like Greece, Portugal and Romania. They are also left out...
You have readers from these countries too...

    • David Ruddock

Greece, Portgugal, and Romania all have unique and starkly different laws regarding importation than many EU countries. Unfortunately, we cannot research the law for all regions, it's simply not feasible.

Romania has extremely high import duties + VAT on these items. Greece has a complex importation process for items of this value requiring the recipient (and us) to fill out several forms, for example.

      • Buciuman

Excuse me, all these countries are in the EU and have the same import duties, set in the Community Customs Tariff.

        • David Ruddock

That's partially correct. Import duties are the same, but many member countries of the EU have additional taxes and fees levied at their borders (including special taxes for consumer electronics in some nations, like Romania).

  • torsrex

Thanks for this awesome message on Easter morning! This made my day :D

  • http://fc1032.blogspot.com Brian

Wow I'm glad i live in NSW Australia :)

I'm also glad that its not just for the US :) I miss out on so many of these!

  • Kappadon

Great Promotion, Good Tablet, will it be possible to Upgrade to a IPad 2, If not I will take the Xoom

  • mehim

*sigh* ... nothing for saudi arabia :( ...
    not surprised though

    Liked anyways :)

  • http://www.google.com Googlist

Im a poor college kid so winning this would be awesome. Keep it up awesome website for all android news

  • Barbara Nolan
  • Andoroidaa

Is Japan so expensive to ship to? :(

    • David Ruddock

Japan has extremely strict laws regarding gaming and contests. We cannot simply make a country eligible without adequately researching its respective laws governing promotional contests, and Japanese law on this subject is difficult to obtain or interpret in English.

  • http://www.darkpain0.com darkpain

Not fair that neither greece or cyprus is on the list...im fun of you and reading your site everyday!!

  • http://mygreyworld.com Sylvia G

Liked and Tweeted! Woohoo! Thanks for opening it up for Singapore!

  • Tom

    Love it!Awesome contest!!!

  • Sigmund Green

People from Québec are ineligible, WTF! Why? Last time I've checked we were still part of Canada.

    • David Ruddock

Quebec law requires us to obtain permission to hold a publicity contest, meaning a fee and application process. We do not hold contests in regions requiring such permissions, and will not in the foreseeable future, sorry.

  • charlie hickman

That's fricking sweet that you guys are giving a new Xoom WI-FI.

  • TONY

I WANT TO WIN A XOOM, NVIDIA, Android Police, Tegra 2 !!!!!!!!!!

  • Kristen

    I would love a Xoom!

  • http://www.thewebtricks.com Jagan Mangat

Done, was already a Fan on Facebook.....

  • Jason

The Xoom is definitely a very impressive piece of hardware. I've had my eye on one for a while. I'm gone from home most of the time working, going to class, or hanging with my youth group kids so having a Xoom would definitely be awesome! Thanks Android Police!

  • Mark

Hey, AP. I have a few questions. What if I'm already a follower of your Twitter account and a fan on your Facebook page, am I still eligible? Do I have to unlike and like your Facebook page to be eligible?

Also, is this a random drawing or are you guys picking a winner based on what we say?

Sorry for the numerous questions. Thanks in advance.

    • http://www.anivision.org Xcom923

Nah, I've been a follower of AP since day one and I've won stuff without having to unfollow and refollow. I'm assuming this is no different. >_< AP's giveaways are getting better and better.

    • David Ruddock

To answer the second question, it's random.

  • http://slickdeals.net amy

    thank you for the promotion!

  • http://www.anivision.org Xcom923

DUDE everyone if you're asking "why is country X not on the list", this has been mentioned over and over again. The country either has strict laws OR the country's importing laws are expensive

  • http://androidmarket.cz Petrroll

    Thanks for Czech Republic!

  • Bryan B

So not in for these drawings requiring Twitter followers (which I don't use) or Facebook fans/likes (which I don't want stuff like this attached to). Hoakey way to up your followers/fans.

  • portnoyd

I'd love to enter this but no FB or Twitter. Sadly have to pass.

  • Todd L

Thanks for the promotion!! Love Android Police!

  • Snail

David Ruddock sure loves repeating himself all over again and again

    • Aaron Gingrich

It's polite to give an exact reply to each person explaining to them why their country isn't eligible. David's trying to fulfill his "polite" quota for the century - he's nearly there.

      • IAmTheK

Yup. I was thinking the same. Felt sorry for even asking. And he even apologized. Good lad.

  • the Goat

Why do you require facebook/twitter for contests? I am a member with neither.

    • Xcom923

that's just something companies do now a days for promotion. Don't take it personally.

  • Kevyn Chau

    I love Android's customization.

  • sgtguthrie

I never win anything...would be nice to have my luck change here!!! lol

  • http://twitter.com/Mommy3G Stephanie

Done & Done~* Thanks for hosting this giveaway :O)
    @Mommy3G / Stephanie Lt

  • Kyle

Oh what I would give to be able to win this wonderful device. My prayers go up in the air as I cross my fingers and hope.

  • Agent Smith

can I post multiple times to twitter just because? I know it wont increase my chances, but will it disqualify me?

  • Android4Life

I am very weak and cannot lift a notebook or even a netbook. But the Motorola XOOM's 730 gram weight is ideal for me to still enjoy my number one hobby: computing!

  • Larry Banamassa

XOOM is an AWESOME TABLET combined with NVIDIA Tegra2 makes it even AWESOMER!

  • http://jpjimenez.com Juan

Too bad, no Costa Rica :(

  • http://archimage.co.nz PabloNZ

Can I just say thanks for adding New Zealand to the list of countries. I know you didn't have to, but you did, and I for one am stoked. Cheers.

I want to show the fans of Ap..e how fast is this tablet, how flexible, but mostly I want to highlight the good production of Android Police in my country, ARGENTINA!

  • Lopo

Where is Slovakia ? All countries around us are there, why not Slovakia ?

  • IowaTimeLord

Bwahahaha!!! Why are no contest legal in Rhode Island?...EVER! That's funny shit!

  • sgtguthrie

I love how half the posts are asking why their country isn't included... Are there no giveaways in other countries?

Please don't take this the wrong way as I mean no disrespect towards anyone. I just don't think I've ever entered a sweepstakes from another country (or seen one include the USA). Not to say they don't exist, I just haven't seen one.

  • Fernando I.

    awesome. Give me one. Thanks

  • Yeah, her

Poor, harrassed David. So very many whiny people from all over the world, "Waah, why not my country?" It isn't your fault, and you never seem to lose your patience. Keep up the good work being awesome, placating the masses.

  • Mat

Thanks for not making this US only like every other place with a XOOM contest !!!
