Droid-life just dropped an exciting informational tidbit for Incredible owners to mull over: the device may be getting the Gingerbread bump some at the end of the second quarter. The upgrade to 2.3 will entail all of the optimizations made to the Android OS since Froyo's release almost a year ago, and hopefully will provide Incredible owners with the newest version of HTC's Sense UI.

The tip came via an email from an HTC rep in response to a customer's help ticket:

Dear Thomas,

I will be happy to assist with your software update inquiry. Indeed the Incredible is going to get 2.3 Gingerbread and we expect to be ready to release it with Verizon before the end of the second quarter of this year.

Take it for what you will, as it's just the word of one HTC employee, but I don't think they'd toss around a specific time frame without some higher-ups having given them one.

I do believe my incredible already has gingerbread. Manufacturers should just pay Cyanogen to push updates to their devices considering they do it 4x faster and more efficiently.

I agree. I have been rocking gingerbread on my incredible for quite awhile now. Thanks CM7!

I've been running Gingerbread on my Dinc since like the beginning of Jan, or whenever Crackflashers started hosting builds, I forgot.

Kudos to HTC though, I was doubting if an official GB was going to hit the Dinc.

Nice! While this doesn't matter much to me with CM on the job, I do like to see some manufacturers and carriers bucking the no update trend that is a huge talking point with anti-android types. Now if I could only get VZW and Samsung to push updates to my mother's Fascinate...

They have say the same for the EVO which IMO is a no brainier but the reason they going to release it till 2nd Q (probably June) is cause they want us to buy the new devices like the thunderbolt or HTC EVO 3D

I know that the G2 doesn't run Sense but where is the news about that phone? I would expect that people would be buzzing about Gingy for that already :(

hopefully this would be a continuing trend from htc though like many other comments, Cm7 has been helping people enjoy gingerbread for some time now including yours truly

Personally i hink both htc and verizon need to just stop running dinc owners in circles and give a clear yes or no whether or not they'll get updated to gingerbread or not. While this says they will, i sent an email about it and i got something back saying something like "htc is working on it, but we work with your carrier and cannot give you a certain answer.......". Just be upfront and tell us whether we'll get it or not for crying out loud!
