If rumors are to be believed, NEC's newest Android phone - the MEDIAS E-04C - will be the world's thinnest smartphone at 7.7mm when it launches this Thursday. It has only been a short time since Sony Ericsson launched the razor-thin Xperia arc and Samsung crowned its Galaxy S II phone as the "world's thinnest smartphone," but at 8.7mm and 8.49mm at their thinnest points, respectively, these phones look positively obese in comparison.

According to Akihabara News, Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo will be announcing its new spring collection later this week, but apparently someone could not wait and leaked photos of NEC's newest offering to Japanese blog Ameba.

Another Japanese blog, Datacider, has managed to get a hold of some prospective specs of the device, including:

  • Dimensions: 127 × 62 × 7.7mm (thickest part of about 8.7mm).
  • Weight: 105g
  • Display: 4 inches, resolution 854 × 480 (FWVGA), TFT
  • OS: Android 2.2 (Froyo)
  • CPU: 800MHz
  • RAM: 512MB
  • Camera: 5 megapixels
  • Battery capacity: 1,260 mAh
  • Standard physical buttons (menu, home, back and on/off buttons)
  • Mobile Wallet
  • MEDIAS NAVI

Although this device may not be the most powerful Android smartphone, it sure looks sexy. I have a feeling INQ's CEO Frank Meehan would approve.

Why would I want a phone that thin? If it was in my back-pocket and I happened to sit down... there comes a point when thin is too thin.

Nice, but not interested at all. Also, Frank Meehan can get f***ed. Not about hardware? No one would like the iPhone if it wasn't for the fact that it has good hardware. You can have the greatest UI in the world but without hardware to run it on its worthless. Don't see how he can have a go at Android OEMs when his company is putting out a terrible looking phone. And he praised two of the ugliest HTC android. WTF?!

    End of off-topic rant.
