As the results of our Friday poll show, quite a few of you aren't convinced by Google's official Android Market Web Store; it looks like a lot of people are sticking with good old AppBrain. Well you AppBrain fans will be happy to hear that one of the site's best features - Fast Web Installer - has finally returned after being disabled back in November of 2010.

To utilize it, you'll need to download the latest versions of the AppBrain app and Fast Web Installer to your phone. Next, enable Fast Web Installer in the AppBrain app's preferences before signing into appbrain.com on your computer. The setup process may not be as seamless as that of the Android Market Web Store, but you do get a few additional benefits exclusive to AppBrain - namely, the ability to uninstall apps, upload wallpapers to your phone, and send links to the device.

Unfortunately, there are also a couple of caveats. First, since AppBrain doesn't have access to Google Checkout, Fast Web Installer can't install paid apps for you. Second - and this should come as a given - you can't install apps not regularly available on your device (i.e. apps that require more powerful hardware/aren't distributed in your country).

Nevertheless, Fast Web Installer is a great way to push (free) apps, links, and wallpapers to your phone, and we're glad to see it return.

    This is pretty cool. I am glad to see AppBrain got their web installer up again.

    I am still messing with Google's Android Market web store. It is pretty good.

    Dammit, I was sooooo happy to see this news, but it isn't working for me. I've followed the instructions to the 't', but whenever I attempt to install an app via AB, I get this error:
    "There was an error sending the app to the phone. Please make sure you enabled it with the 'Fast Web Installer' app and then please try again."
    Bummer. And they don't really have much of a support presence to speak of.

    @Adam

    I get the same error message.
