Do you love the Motorola XOOM but hate the idea of signing up for yet another contract? Looks like you might just be in luck - according to Maurizio Angelone, Motorola Latin America's General Manager, a WiFi-only version of the XOOM is very real and will, in fact, be launching in April.

Of course, it's always possible that the April timeframe will be exclusive to Argentina, and there's no word on pricing, but we can always hope it'll come to the States along with an iPad-esque $499 asking price. Let's make it happen, Motorola!

Wait, why are AP and the other tech sites saying that this will be launching in April, "a month ahead of the Verizon/3G version", when it was already announced by Moto CEO Sanjay Jha that the XOOM will be released in February???

Sorry about that - I wanted to get this news posted asap, so rather than researching this info, I just went with what the other sites were saying. Anyway, I've updated the post to remove this and thus (attempt to) resolve any confusion. :)

No worries, glad that you guys are trying to get important news like this out there as soon as it comes across the wire. Now hopefully, A) the notion of the wifi-only XOOM will turn out to be true, B) that this wifi-only version will actually be released in the US as well, and C) that maybe, just maybe, this thing will get released as close to the date of 3G release as possible! FINGERS CROSSED!!

The Xoom will miss its official release date im afraid, problems with the OS. Apparently its going to be released at least a month late, end of march.

do you have a link for that info??
