dev page

Earlier today, we received a tip regarding Notion Ink's yet-to-be-released developer program for its "Genesis" app platform. Indeed, while the developer homepage remains relatively useless, the leaked developer program registration page the tipster sent us does appear to be legitimate and even comes complete with terms and conditions.

Update: As some of you so eloquently pointed out, the developer program was indeed active at one point, and the registration has now been closed (at least partially, apparently). Nevertheless, we believe some details weeded out of the terms and conditions and displayed below are relatively unknown and quite valuable.

After registering and clicking the confirmation link in the email from Notion Ink, I found myself at the end of the road, as the actual pages for developers could not be found.

While the owners of HTC Wildfires have known for a while now that their devices would be eventually receiving Froyo, and that it probably wouldn't happen until Christmas, they were still secretly hoping HTC wouldn't take over 6 months to accomplish the feat. At least it looks like the company is keeping its word, which is refreshing nowadays, to say the least.

Starting this week, HTC will be rolling out Froyo to European Wildfire variants, with the rest of the world following sometime between now and February 2011. Better late than never, I suppose, although by then, we could be seeing Honeycomb and forgetting all about Froyo, let alone Gingerbread.

Aspen, loads of snow, and now coverage from Sprint and Clearwire's WiMax network... yeah, Coloradans pretty much have it all. Just over an hour ago, the nation's third largest carrier announced that its 4G network is now live along Colorado's Front Range (which includes such cities as Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, and Greeley) as well as in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Sprint's already got two mighty fine devices - the HTC EVO 4G and the Samsung Epic 4G - on its WiMax network, and if the Shift 4G is as good as it looks, the carrier's subscriber base could be set to increase even more than it already has.

Planning on buying the latest Google phone in the UK? Then you're in luck - the pre-order price from Carphone Warehouse has been cut to just £429.99 for the SIM-free option and £0 for the version that comes with a two-year contract. It's worth noting that the device is currently listed as being on back order, so you may be have to wait for some time before you get your phone. Still, at least the Nexus S is available from third party retailers, unlike the device it succeeds.

E*TRADE Financial and Fidelity Investments have finally made their mobile applications available to Android users. Up until now, both programs have been compatible exclusively with iOS and Blackberry OS. Although I'm not much of a stock trader myself, these apps are big wins for enterprise customers who use Android devices. Both are very slick and easy to use. I should also mention that both of them have very quick load times.

Fidelity Investments

Features include:

  • The ability to get free real-time quotes, news & charts
  • Conduct market research
  • Check the market and monitor your savings account
  • Securely buy, sell, and place orders with just a few taps
  • Get breaking market news

E*Trade Mobile Pro

Features include:

  • The ability to get free real-time quotes, charts, and market commentary
  • Conduct market research
  • Have an experience completely integrated with your online account
  • Securely buy, sell, and place orders
  • Get breaking market news

If you have an E*TRADE or Fidelity Investments account, you are definitely going to want to check these apps out.

Way back in July, Lookout released the results of a study on app security, and found that many apps have access to user data that they have no need for - suggesting that there was plenty of potential for illicit information use. Two months later, a group of researchers from Intel, Penn State, and Duke came forth with data showing just that: 15 of the 30 apps tested sent GPS data, 7 sent unique hardware information, and a few sent more private information such as phone and SIM numbers.

Fast forward to today - the Wall Street Journal has released the findings of a very similar study they conducted, and the results are surprisingly similar.

The Scandinavian online retailer CDON.com has been spotted harbouring a certain "telefon med Dualcore processor" by one of Swedroid's observant readers. LG's dual-core forerunner may not be the only Tegra II kid in town, but it sure looks like it's going to be the first to make its way into some frigid, Nordic hands.

The page may only be a pre-order/placeholder, but it gives us some indication of what prices might be like with the 2X. Unsurprisingly, they look to be pretty steep. Without a contract, the Op2X will run you and your Swedish friends for 4999 kronor, or roughly €550/$730.
