This is one hell of a brilliant idea that deserves all the attention it can get: seven University of Waterloo students have come together to write an app every day for seven straight days. But these aren't just average run-of-the-mill students; they're the cream of the crop, and most have a bevy of industry experience backing them up. Better still, they've worked together before - but their awesomeness was ...
Verizon has finally announced the Motorola Droid 2 Global on the Verizon Facebook page. It may seem a bit backwards since the pre-order has been going on for a while - but now it's officially official. The D2G will be priced at $199.99 with a new two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate - which means you'll be paying $299.99 upfront.
Unlike the original Droid 2, Global owners will be provided with a SIM card so they can use the phone overseas. It will also come with a 1.2 GHz (vs. the D2's 1.0) processor which should satiate your ...
WhoIsIt is a new twist on an old classic: setting custom ringtones for certain contacts (or groups of contacts). The twist is that you can assign custom ringtones and vibrations for Gmail, SMS, and MMS, on a per-contact basis. Not too shabby, especially for a free app. Other features include:
Bert Nordberg, the CEO of Sony Ericsson, told the Wall Street Journal in a recent interview that “there’s a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somewhere” when asked about the PlayStation phone rumors and leaks. Nordberg also said that Sony Ericsson plans to "make a lot of noise" with a new product at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2011. Could this be the famed PlayStation phone? Possibly.
Nordberg also stated in the interview that there are some major challenges in developing a gaming-oriented smartphone. Overall, the toughest part seems ...
While everyone in the U.S. is awaiting the Black Friday, the largest retail event of the year, RadioShack decided to start the party early and is kicking off its own event called Shack Friday.
Mirroring Best Buy's and Office Max's Black Friday deals, The Shack will be offering Sprint's version of the 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab for $50 off retail, which means you can pick up the device on contract for $349.99. Unlike Best Buy and Office Max, however, The Shack's sale starts early: tomorrow, November 21st and lasts through November 24th.
The promotion does not mention whether the ...
If you use AppBrain for all of your Android app downloads, then you'll want to update the app as soon as possible: the latest update to version five includes all of the following awesome new features:
- Details page for every app
- Related apps tab
- Ability to share through any sharing app on your phone
- Fast Web Installer now integrated
- Fast Sync Widget
Unfortunately, the integration of the Fast Web Installer probably won't help thanks to the new Market update breaking it, but with plenty of other new features this update is still pretty substantial.

The recent update to the Android Market had plenty of people excited about new features to be available in Gingerbread, but it seems like the update may have had some unpleasant side effects. The Appbrain Fast Web Installer feature, which allowed users to push application downloads to their phones straight from Appbrain.com, is now broken due to new security measures. Some naysayers may think that Google is going directly after Appbrain, but in reality, the reasons are much less nefarious. A security flaw that allowed one app to secretly install others was recently exposed by a security company...
To end our relatively calm and Gingerbread-less Friday, I present to you The Evolution Of Android - a stop motion animation created by YouTube user droidsans. It's kind of like our Meet Andy: Android's History In A Nutshell, except it's not. And it's got a twist at the end. Can you guess what it is?
My favorite part was when Andy spit it (I'm still not telling you what "it" is - watch the video) out - thanks for making our Friday night a little more fun, droidsans!
[Bonus] To finish the night off, here is an Apple ...
