Lookout Premium

Lookout Mobile Security, a free Android app that secures your device from viruses in addition to backing it up and allowing you to remotely locate it, yesterday launched a premium service that we've been expecting for a while. The Premium version is offered as an optional upgrade to a fully functional free base version for an annual fee of $29.99 or a monthly fee of $3. That's a pretty hefty price to charge, especially since regular, free accounts already have access to so many features, so let's take a look at the extras that you get:

  • Privacy Advisor protects your privacy.
  • The ability to remotely wipe and lock the device (free accounts can already remotely locate it on a map and sound an alert, even the phone is in vibration mode).
  • Enhanced backup and restore capabilities - while free accounts can only back up contacts, premium users can also back up their call history and their photos. Note: existing pre-Premium-launch users were already able to back up photos and call histories, and it seems like Lookout extended these capabilities to them free of charge. Free accounts created after the Premium launch will be able to back up contacts only.
  • Premium support, which translates to faster responses to questions and issues.

And the winners are:
  1. Jim (mr.nice.*****@gmail.com)
  2. Kate (RNK********@gmail.com)
  3. Peter Chan
  4. Chris (cristk*****@yahoo.com)
  5. Carol Grigsby

Emails have been dispatched notifying them of how to collect their winnings.
Thanks for playing!

Lookout is being nice here and giving all users a free 30 day trial before it charges any fees. It's probably a worthy investment, but since we here at Android Police understand that you might not necessarily want to give up $30 of your hard-earned cash, we've arranged for a giveaway of 5 one-year licenses.

To enter, simply leave a comment below telling us why you think you should win. It can be any reason at all, so long as it's related to the app and isn't too long (remember, we have to sift through all of these).

The contest ends on Monday, November 22nd at 11:59 p.m. The 5 lucky winners with the best comments will be selected shortly after and contacted with activation instructions.

Good luck, everyone!

I should win, because I am the first to leave a comment, and I am cool. Plus I love my G2 and dont want it stolen.

    • Fullwave

With my wife out of work and her unemployment since January, I have very little funds for discretionary spending. If I lose my Droid to a virus or theft, it's back to the flip phone.

  • Terry

I've been using Lookout (free) since EVO day one and love it. As soon as I get back to work I'll buy Lookout Premium. In the meantime, though...

  • zen kun

    • Coldman

Looks like you could use Lookout to recover some of those periods and other punctuation you're missing.

  • Arpit

I should win because i am the second, i have installed lookout and it helped me once.

  • Frank

I need it because if someone steals my phone my fiances naked pics fall into the wrong hands.

    • BrettFavre

I want it to keep others from seeing pics of my junk!

      • Monica Lewinsky

Everyone has already seen your junk pictures Brett. Stop on by and I will see if you measure up to Bill.

  • http://www.facebook.com/MrCreePer03 Mr. Creeper

I should win 'cause I can't afford for anything to happen to my DROID X! Thanks, guys!

  • Nathan

My phones are always being stolen or breaking. I need this for extra security and peace of mind.

  • Coldman

I actually lost my phone once and then hurried home and pinpointed it on the map using Lookout's site. Went back to the same place and it was still there. Brilliant!

  • Jeremy Rickles

I deserve to win because I'm rockin a Droid1, rooted and using Cyanogen 6 with a Chevy No1 LVM1.2ghz kernel. This is too freaking awesome for someone to steal and use as they please. Thank you in advance.

  • Stephen Harris

I think i should win this GREAT prize Because I LOVE my Htc EVO! I want to keep it Protected and NOT STOLEN

    • Stephen Harris

Also, I have had my phone lost and Lookout SAVED MEE!

      • Stephen Harris

Also, i use Android Police App on Evo :)

        • Coldman

Android Police doesn't have an official app yet - what you're using is some garbage developed by a mass producer.

        • Stephen Harris

if i get updated its fine with me. But android Police should make a good one quick!

        • Aaron Gingrich

Takes time to do it right :)

        • Stephen Harris

I bet it takes a while.. lol

  • Corey Brown

It is the best security app on Android. I love it

  • Coldman

Is this the best you all can do? Most of these answers look like they've been written by a 9-year-old.

  • http://twitter.com/theandroidgirl The Android Girl

I should win because I'm a girl and that means I could get easily distracted and I need Lookout to lookout for me. :)

  • Renee Lastimado

I should win this! I've been using it on my EVO & it's the best app I've downloaded. It gives me peace of mind ~ especially as a single female. I would hate to have my personal info in the wrong hands should anything ever happen to my EVO.

  • Chris

wow, why should I win ? Well, yes, I know that everyone uses the 'lost/stolen' routine to convince you that he/she is the one to pick. I am going to base my argument on my country, Romania, which I don't know if you are aware, but here everything gets stolen. The latest fashion is to steal the phone right from the ear of the owner, while he is talking at it. I want my phone(Samsung Galaxy S) to have total security with Lookout against the thieves. Oh, and to whoop the thief's ass when I find my phone.

    • Coldman

Now we're talking! This is a good entry, people, pay attention.

  • http://androidpolice Jim Scaccia

I should win cause I've told everyone who owns a droid about Lookout. An incredible app. for my Incredible phone.

  • Ollie

I think I should win because the last prize I won I never got from BuzzVoice. The went free a few days later..

  • Peter Chan

Lookout is Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeettttt! How awesome is Lookout? It's like Waaarrrmmm Apple Pie.

I was a heavy Blackberry user before going Android. I paid extreme amounts for apps like Smartgrd. When I got my Epic 4g I was almost lured into buying Smartgrd again for the Android platform. That is until I found Lookout. I should win a copy of the premium version because I'm a testament to why there is always something better. Lookout is it.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/author/jaroslav-stekl/ Jaroslav Stekl

"There is always something better" is right - especially when that something is Gingerbread. Gimme, Google! :)

    • Aaron Gingrich

      "Waaaarmmmm Apple Pie."

I get it. I like it. Subtle, slightly old school.

      Well played, sir. Well played.

  • Joseph Simonowich

I should win because I just got my first Android device and I care about keeping it virus and malware free!

  • hayden

Really need something reliable to keep my data safe and secure. Would be much appreciated.

  • dan lig0j

I will be on the " lookout" for my winning name....

  • hellow0rld

I need lookout to keep out the bed intruders

  • chris ponciano

I would like to win for my wife's new transform, hopefully I don't have to hear her say she lost her phone then....

  • fangdroid

I should win because my young kids love to play this game called hide the phone from daddy right before work. This would keep me from losing my job because I come in late to work.

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

      Ha, nice one.

  • Sanket B.

Need something that can protect me, cuz I was targeted I downloaded angry birds bonus level and come to find out it was not official and by the time google took it out I was compromised had to reset to company setting
Well any way hoping to win this

  • closetlogger

Haha, i know, I know! I like everyone else am more than a little skeptible about all these lost phones miraculously found. Viruses & and other nasties, my circle of android friends and I haven't been affected, not saying they aren't out there. But....I'd be a willing (skeptical) recipient for your promotion.
Oh, and I have not used the free version like everyone else.

  • Stephen Harris

nice one, i never got a virus (idk how u get one) but its not that hard to lose a phone or get it stolen mine got stolen at school tracked it and the boy got suspended lmao so funny

  • http://www.facebook.com/LiveCarlou5 Carlos Fajardo

i don't want this app, i NEED this app . i need my phone to be save and secure since i don't know what i would do without my phone, hope i win!

  • Daniel Alexander

I should win because it would be nice to have premium Lookout on my EVO and Epic!

  • Matthew Hawkins

Because I am disabled and I don't want my phone to be disabled. Due to a virus or being lost. I will be on the "lookout" see if I won. Pardon the pun.... Thanks Matt

    • Stephen Harris

      High school is a bitch!!

  • toni norton

I've used this app since I got my Aria and it has saved my butt more than once now. With phones the price they are now I feel like I cant afford not to have it installed. Win this contest or not...this app will definitely be on my phone ya'll. If you are wise you will follow my lead!

  • Kate

Maybe this isn't the most witty response, but I would appreciate winning because I am a Registered Nurse and use healthcare-related apps in my daily practice, and I also have several work-related files stored on my Moto Droid. I find my Droid to be an extremely useful tool during any given work day; quickly access medication information, Spanish-English medical terminology translator (SOOO much better and useful than the lame 'point to the pic' cards the hospital provides), hard-to-remember medical calculations, etc... To lose all of this in one fell swoop would seriously suck. And to have my professional notes/papers (no I don't use/save patient's names!) That I'm working on to be leaked for someone else to possibly use/publish in academic papers would be beyond sucky. If I had a way to quickly recover and protect my apps and information, it would give me great piece of mind! Also, if my phone was actually stolen, it would be awesome to be able to go to the PD with hard evidence and get my phone back! Not to mention the satisfaction of locking the phone so the MF'r who stole it couldn't even use it!

  • Jim Irving

I enjoy your website and lookout app is great. Nuff said

  • Randy

I have been using Lookout for some time.
I enjoy it's security and scanning.
I've even on the premium trial for 30 days. It seems like a worthwhile investment that will give Lookout the edge over htcsense.com

I really hope to win a license. I could put it to good use.

  • yuku

I've been keeping all data at my computer since 1999, and it's safe until now, thanks to automated backups. I hope to have the same thing in my phone, since now my phone is a small computer!

  • http://lars-mueller.mobi Lars

I would like to win ,because i would to save my Desireé why i have been used the free Version from Lookout security.

  • Rafal

Lookout is light and like to use it, and be sure that's he take care about all viruses, i stopped worrying about since i downloaded it from market... really like to receive upgrade to premium if not that's 4 sure that's i will do it when my basic account will expire.

  • dragongunner

I have been using this app for as long as I have owned my N1 and its awesome. I am in Law Enforcement and you wouldn't believe that things get "Misplaced" by accident all the time in the station (there's the saying if it ain't nailed down it will grow legs and disappear). I would love use the premium version to find my N1 if it should ever get "Misplaced" at the station by one of my IPhone fanboy colleagues.

    • Westwood94

That looks great, i'm always looking for ways to make my android safer, i might have to give this a try on my Galaxy S, great stuff guys!

  • lkbfreak

I shouldn't get this app for free :) It could change my luck in winning haha

  • Danny

I need it, so I can leave my HTC desire in my car and follow movements of my girlfriend! Ahahahah!

  • Kalu

I should win because..........give me 10 good reasons why i should not :D

  • http://dangerismymiddlename.com Paul Danger Kile

I would very much appreciate adding the remote wipe feature (among others). With a middle name likemine

  • http://dangerismymiddlename.com Paul Danger Kile

Please ignore that last comment. I didn't get to finish what I was writing before an errant finger submitted the form. I was on the AndroidPolice.com app.

    Here goes again:

I would very much appreciate adding the remote wipe feature (among all of the others) to my current, free, account.

My middle name (yes, that is my legal middle name) is a constant reminder of the danger out there! So let's get safer, so that I can be Paul "Safety" Kile!

    Thank you,
    Paul Danger Kile

  • http://www.devile.net Bruno Barão

I should win, to give it to my brainless girlfriend >:)

    • Ari

I hope she doesn't see this post.

  • Marcos

I should get the license cause I am always loosing stuff and lookout is the best to get my phone back in case I loose it or get robbed.

  • Kerwin Robertson

My HTC Desire should get a licence because it's a nervous little critter, gets spooked easily and does not like strangers pockets.
So for the sanity and security of my Desire you know what to do......

  • Bill Wilt

I used this app. Since I got my x. Being in computer security I Should have the best.

  • Per

My phone is my phone and not your phone and it stays that way with Lookout.

  • bk w/ bloody sauce

I've been using lookout since it came out on my hero, then my evo, and still on my hero that is now my wifes, we've used the location feature which is sweet btw...even if I don't win, the free version is still the best app out there in this category.

  • Ryan

You should pick me because i'm cool ! LOL

  • k.dubb

I'm gonna win b/c I'm an Android geek who loves Android!!! (and I kept it short...tee hee hee)

I should win because I come here every morning, and 3-5 times a day to get my Android news fix. Also, If I lose my phone, I can wipe those "private" pictures I have on my EVO!

  • Gamble

I should win because I need to believe that I didn't make a mistake buying a Galaxy S from Bell in Canada. I'm still on Eclair for crying out loud! ECLAAAAAAAAAAAAAIR!!!

  • Slipgate

I should win, because I don't have insurance on my phone because I'm too broke! (another reason I can't do the $30 myself!)

  • sam

I always misplace my phone like my keys, I need it BAD

  • heidi

I could really use this. Every time I walk outside, gremlins attack me, trying to wrestle away my phone.

  • BrownNoseN

Android Police Staff ROCKS!!! Keep up the awesome work you guys are doing, by bringing us all of the latest and greatest apps and the best reviews for new devices... When I grow up I wanna be just like you.

  • floretbroccoli

Because I have "Lookout, There's a Buzzard," from Porgy & Bess as my ringtone.

  • Mario

Been using the app for a while and love, and a free pro version would be awesome.

  • oldmanwinter

I'd use to to monitor my phone. And if my girlfriend thinks about going through my info, i'll have to set off the alarm on her. But, if things get really out of hand... remote wipe my EVO.

  • http://twitter.com/iamchadjones Chad Jones

    I live in Memphis....nuff said.

  • Tavio

Lookout will double as LoJack for my beater.

  • Keefers

30 dollars is the cost of two boxes of sangria wine. Thinks.... I would rather have the free Lookout and the wine.

    • Keefers

Also to protect my Samsung nexus I bought Friday. Im loving ICS!

  • Michael

I lead my life as an integral piece of American safety. Always on the job to defend regular civilians if conflict arises. The lookout would enable me to secure the confidential data on my device.

I cannot tell you my career. All I can say is that I am not a mall ninja.

  • http://twitter.com/laynem LayneM

I have the free version of lookout , but would love the full version.

  • jacob

I should win because Stone Cold said so

  • Troubl5h0otr

I should get a free license because I just learned of Lookout yesterday and now they are charging for features I wanted to get it for! (So unfair!)

  • Corinna Escareno

"If ya' smell what The Rock is cookin'!" ...
then it's Corinna Escareno getting LOOKOUT @ no charge!! Thank you I sooooo deserve it, since I'm the most deserving! :)

  • http://droidcoach.com John

Because my EVO is like an I.V. to me and I would definitely get post traumatic stress disorder if it was stolen!

  • Sander

I don't really have a good reason why I have to win.

But I have never won something,

and really would like to get once something extra in my life.

  • http://www.slipshft.com Slipshft

I could always send you the $30 instead? Deal?

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

  • Peter

I have tried the Lookup application and found it very useful. For starters, as soon as I installed it I got to do a scan and found it to be fast. It does not hold your phone captive. It works in the background and you can backup your contacts, call history and pictures in their website. My congratulations to the winners. Enjoy.
    Keep LookingUp! :)

  • Jim

LOOK, says you, MyLOOKOUT has just put OUT a new LOOKOUT. My OUT-LOOK with a copy of LOOKOUT would be LOOKing up. I’m LOOKing to have my phone OUT of harm’s way, from malware LOOKing at my data and sending it OUT to the kind of people we should be on the LOOK-OUT for, and from those who'd reach OUT to take my phone OUT of my possession. I’d feel better with LOOKOUT LOOKing OUT for me and my Nexus One. And the prospect of a LOOKOUT license withOUT the fee couldn’t LOOK any better. Please don’t LOOK at this and throw it OUT of contention.

    • Jim

In all seriousness, though, I recently went through an international adoption. Due to certain deadlines and case-specific issues, I set myself up to be able to handle almost any issue involving my end of the adoption from my handset – this turned out to be a tremendous help a few times. The downside is that it involved my phone being loaded up with lots of personal information. One day in the midst of this I lost my phone during a trip to the store. Thankfully, it fell off my belt in the car, not in the store, and I found it about an hour later. But the thought of all that information in someone else’s hands was an hour’s worth of high-quality panic. The ability to remotely wipe my phone would have been helpful then, and at the very least being able to locate my phone (in my car, in the parking lot) would have shortened my search. Lookout seems to have everything I need to control my data and offer peace of mind in situations like that.

  • Rick Nelson

I would love to win. I currently use the Lookout App free edition and I love it. This App has to be the Best backup, locator, and Virus scanner on the market. $30 is a fair price but Free is Awesome.

  • Fifth313ment

Lookout is quite an app and considering most of the app is free is even more amazing! I would love to win as I simply love this app! I don't know how they are able to include so many features for free and have made the premium even better!

  • Android Police# 1 fan

    I should win because I am your# 1 fan!

  • Uncle BAB

Two days late but just as great.
Love your app wish you would slap me with a free one.

  • Reed

I currently use Super Security, but after using Look Out for a year, they would probably have me as a monthly paying customer because I would have liked using the app so much by then!

  • zen kun

lol we all are fan xD we must win xD

  • tookie

i want it because it looks and probably would be awesome :D

  • http://facebook.com/ketchupmakesmeCRINGE Chris

I hope to win just because I download a TON of apps/games as is, and when 2.2 is released for my Epic, it'll only increase tenfold. I'd like to keep an eye on what's junk and what's not and eliminate some of the apps that are just taking up space. Having the "screaming" function would be great too if my buddies decide to try and be funny and hide my phone for some reason. Keeping my fingers crossed!

  • FlipBumWalla

The wife got a Pre last year. She hates it. She's always trying to take my phone. So, I am going to get an Android phone for her. But! On her Pre, I have a locating app "Where's my Pre" that I have used more than she knows. I need to continue that with her new phone. See why I should win the Lookout Premium? I hope she doesn't read this.

  • http://www.advancedlaserservices.com Spectre71 (rooted Evo)

Great product have used the free version for a while now and love it. The backup is the best!!!

  • IncredibleDoes

I should win because I have lost my phone multiple times and lookout would help me out...a lot!

  • TareX

Imagine if the same guy who won the Samsung Intercept also won the Lookout giveaway. Now make it happen.

  • http://jimmyr.com Zac

I think I should be chosen to win because I am a huge security freak and am rather paranoid about a security breech. This would help calm me down. :)

  • http://www.losanalistas.net Edison Ditren

Because my brother lost his mytouch 4g and I dont want go through the same.

  • http://iamdarren.com iamdarren

I should win, because I'm really ill with a stomach bug, and this would really brighten my day. I haven't been able to keep anything down but winning this would raise my spirit.

  • Carol Grigsby

You're so sexy! You're brilliant too. OMG, if you were single I'd totally rock your world! (I'm going for flattery here, if that doesn't work, bribery is next)

  • graves

I should win cause I use the product and I am nice

  • Cristi

I am currently a computer science student and I want to win because the best protection comes with the best solutions. And Lookout is the best solution on the market :)

  • jesse fair

I think I should win the free lookout license so that in the event my phone is lost or stolen i can wipe all my famous contacts such as David Hasselhoff, the Geico Gecko, Jerry Springer, Hugh Hefner, Oprah and President Obama to name a few. Wouldn't be good for those people considering the type of lets say unlawful business/service I run. Lol all kidding aside this app sounds kick a$$.

  • Zach B

I should win because without the remote lock and remote wipe, my woman won't give me any saucy pictures to help keep me entertained during the slow times when I'm protecting the people from diseases.

  • http://dazziko.info Dante Osbourne

I should win for the sake of the privacy advisor. As a new user of the android platform, I'm not fully aware of what to lookout for when downloading apps. This could definitely save my skin!

  • http://www.google.com/profiles/dbin78 Dain Binder

This one time, at band camp, I lost my phone after a crazy night. This software would have helped me find it and if not, to remotely erase all data.

  • Alin

Why should I win??? the answer is simple Why not??? aaand because the FORCE is with me. Neah, not really it has run with those angry birds:(( I hate them. Why is this happening to me??:(( and don't tell me why not??:))

  • David

I'm really concerned about privacy. Why does a Flashlight App need to know my location? Does it want to know when I'm in the dark? Lookout Premium can alert me to these sorts of shenanigans so I can uninstall.

  • Mike Gawlik

Please help me protect myself from others...

  • John

I freaked out like a wild banchee when I lost my razor, I'd hate to know what it would be like if I lost my Droid. I've been using the Lookout app about a month, highly recomended.

  • Mike

I'm starting to review Android apps to post on a blog. Since I'm downloading many Apps, it would be nice to have the protection of Lookout Premium. Currently I use Lookout Free, and since I'm currently unemployed, I won't be buying any software til I start bring home the bacon again.

  • claudejr

Quite simply put,as they say in the south "Lookout now y'all"..its a cry for all to join the movement..
