Does everyone remember the new keyboard called 8pen that arrived earlier this month and took the Android community by storm, both negatively and positively? I don't think I've ever witnessed so many widely different opinions about whether a keyboard is completely useless or a work of a genius until 8pen came out. Brian, for example, loves it, and I absolutely despise it.

There is one reason to install and use this rotary keyboard, however, and it is a good one. Even better, it comes in the best kind of comics - the fffffuuuuuuuuuuuuu kind.

Have you tried 8pen? Now try it and then give it to your girlfriend or someone else you know. I am willing to bet the same reaction would come out of that person.

  • Matt

I must admit, I'm looking forward to doing that to somebody. To make it even more amusing, I disabled all the other IMEs on my phone.

    I really do like 8pen.

  • hager

  • soco_and_lime

-1 for use of language in this post

    -1 reader on this site.

So much for presenting news and articles in a journalistic way. Freedom of speech yes, but unnecessary and unprofessional use.

I may have overdone the "sh*t" part, so I just edited it out (it was a reference to a sh*tstorm, which ended up sounding too crude). I'm sorry you feel that because of this post, you have to stop reading the site. Alas, the web and blogs are about the freedom of expression, and, having loved the idea in the comic, and seeing how it's a very non-serious post, there was not much journalism I needed to apply in this case.

      lol.

  • a female Android user

I hadn't realized how much I missed misogynistic frat boy humor on tech sites until I saw this!

    Uninstall.

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Replace girlfriend with "friend" and the point still stands in exactly the same way - 8pen is confusing to people who see it for the first time. Don't be upset just because he used a female character - it's hardly misogynistic; I feel it went well with the point he was trying to get across (and if we talk statistically, there are fewer techie females than males, don't you agree?)

All the party poopers in this thread, cheer up - it's just a comic.

I'm a female "techie" and I'm not offended by this AT ALL. I thought it was so damn funny I tweeted it.

          Thank you.

  • gabe

    LMAO!!!! EPIC WIN!

  • jurrabi

    Funny.

For mi, the choice of keyboard is simple. I want something that makes me type fast while keeping the error rate as low as possible.
I have no problem with a hard learning curve if in the end it pays.

But 8pen has all the wrong features. It requires much work to learn and get fast. And when you get you still go pretty slow.

It takes longer to type a simple letter in 8pen than in takes to type a full word in swype...

I really don't get the people that like 8pen... except for the reason of the joke.
