CLIQ XT owners may experience slight excitement reading this, but only slight - the OTA update version 1.32.20 rolling out now to CLIQ XTs around the country does not contain Android 2.1 - it's merely an incremental update over its existing ancient OS (what is it, 1.5 nowadays?). This update showed up a couple of days ago as a limited beta test, and, thankfully, it didn't take Motorola long to open the flood gates to all CLIQ XT owners.
If you remember, Motorola has been promising 2.1 for a while but recently updated the projections to late Q3 (fail)/early Q4 (Q4 started 4 days ago). That's not to say this update is not welcome - it seems to bring quite a bit of improvements, but Motorola, seriously, it's been a while since 2.1 hit the market.
Here are the cited improvements:
Overall Phone Performance
Users will notice a significantly improved overall performance and responsiveness to input requests, including: opening applications, answering calls, opening the Happenings widget, and downloading attachments and pictures within email
Additional Stability
Improved stability, resulting in fewer occurrences of unresponsiveness and/or programs quitting unexpectedly
Bluetooth® Performance
Improved performance and connectivity with other Bluetooth devices
Messaging
Prevents erroneous notifications that a message has not been sent. Also resolves MMS sending / receiving functionality issues in certain scenarios
Touchscreen
Improved touch screen sensitivity and touch response
SWYPE® Keyboard
Includes updates to the latest version of the SWYPE software, resulting in improved overall performance of the application
To update, wait for the phone to pop up a notification or trigger it manually be going to Settings > System updates.
Now, about that 2.1...
