From The Horse’s Mouth: Samsung Epic 4G Pre-Order Not Starting Today

Earlier today, Engadget reported that Sprint would begin taking pre-orders for the Epic 4G later today. Before running with the story, we wanted to fact-check with our Sprint rep, and we’re glad we did - his response:

No plans for pre-order today.  As you know, people can however sign up to get additional information sent to them when it’s available - but not pre-order.

There you have it - as much as we wish it was true, looks like we have a bit longer to wait.

    I suppose your sprint source is reliable? There's a lot of other people out there that have talked with sprint reps and they all get different answers. What about the Aug. 11th release? Any word on that?

      Our Sprint source here is Sprint PR, not some sneaky employee feeding us inside info. Given that it's already 5 PM EST, I have a hard time imagining they're still planning on starting pre-orders today.

    I have an idea to clear this confusion. Sprint, stop jerking us around and give as a date!

    I reserved at two different stores, yesterday and today. One said "late august" for launch, and the other has no idea at all.

    I'm really upset all these rumors and no real news but who knows I've still got hope. C'mon Sprint!

      Not to be too much of a dick, but maybe if you would stop treating rumors as OMG FACT! like all the Apple sites out there that do it, you wouldn't be upset.

      rumors by their very nature are complete and total BS until something proves them correct or wrong. Its the equivalent of a teaser trailer for a movie that is 15 seconds long and 8 months from release, where the movie itself could drastically change in that time. If you treat rumors as anything more then entertainment you are going to get burned again and again and again.
