Latest Breakdowns: Top 10 Android Devices, Operating System Share, Satisfaction Levels, And Other Stats

Today we're having a look at AdMob's latest monthly mobile metrics report which includes some information that may be of interest to the Android community, especially developers.

Top 10 Android Devices

One particularly interesting piece of information is their ranking of the top ten Android smartphones in terms of market share, based on data collected by AdMob in May of this year. You can view the list and each handset maker’s own market share below.

Combined, HTC and Motorola are dominating the Android handset market with an 83% share. It's going to be very interesting to see how the stats change in the coming months with Samsung, currently at 5% (at least in the top 10 list), gunning full speed to regain their own Android market share.

Yahoo Mail, Messenger, And Search Hit The Android Market

Though it took a little while, Yahoo has just launched Android apps for their Mail and Messenger services, and most interestingly, their Search service.

The Mail and Messenger apps don’t really hold many surprises. They are fairly polished and include all the functions you would expect; for e-mail, this means checking, organizing, sending e-mails, and downloading attachments.

For Messenger, you are able to chat with your Yahoo friends and keep the app running in the background. You also have the ability to send texts to your friends from the app; these will appear in the conversation.

If you’re an avid Yahoo user (which, if your on Android, chances are you aren’t) you have the ability to switch back and forth between these two apps, assuming you have both installed.

CyanogenMod 6 Hands-On: First Impressions

Yesterday, we broke the news that CyanogenMod 6 Alpha 1 was released to the public. Having successfully installed it on an AT&T Nexus One, we can now give you the lowdown on what this release (so far) contains.

User Interface

Essentially, users can expect an experience that will not stray too far from what CyanogenMod 5.08 changed in terms of the UI. An updated version of ADW Launcher does provide a few enhancements, though. Namely, tilt-sensing home screens are now a default feature.

This is good news for everyone. Given that most touch screen phones are easier to type on and hold with two hands in the landscape format, home screens to match are a welcome addition to the overall experience.
