Plain vanilla post folks, 'cause I don't have the time or means to make it as pretty as I usually would.
For those of you still holding out on FRF50, here's an update to the latest leaked ROM:
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/passion/signed-passion-FRF83-from-FRF50.38d66b26.zip
You can now update from FRF72 - see Update 3 below.
For instructions please check the original FRF50 post. I'll add more content to this post as I have it available to me, and time to make it pretty.
Update 1: June 23rd, 2010, 5:41pm PST ^ID
To force your Nexus One to "phone home" to check for an OTA update, you can dial this into the phone keypad:
*#*#2432546#*#*
(that number translates to 'checkin')
For me, it pops up a notification icon saying ""checkin succeeded" but nothing else happens.
Update 2: June 23rd, 2010, 6:10pm PST ^ID
I've had people ask me on Twitter why Google would be sending FRF83 as an OTA upgrade as an incremental build. My best guess is that since FRF50 was an official OTA update for press, etc., this is an official upgrade for press members who were lucky enough to get FRF50 in the first place. The fact that we as the general public have been able to get updates since then means that those of us (myself included) who were anxious enough to install FRF72 must now wait for a build number higher than FRF83 to get our next Froyo fix.
Update 3: June 24th, 2010, 2:14am PST ^AR
Here is the url to the FRF72 ----> FRF83 update!

OK, so how do we revert to FRF50 so that we can install FRF83?
Sadly, there doesn't seem to be a way to downgrade to FRF50 from FRF72, so I'm in the same boat as you.

you dont have to go back to frf50 there is a link for frf50 to frf83
You can go back down to ERE27 through a custom recovery image like the ClockWorkMod (which is ROM Manager in the Marketplace).
I was running FRF72 and downgraded back to ERE27, then up to FRF50, then to FRF83.
Think it says its only for people with a rooted phone. And also I would assume this downgrade erases your stuff and brings you back to how you got it new?
did this on ERE27, running 2.1-update1, nothing =(
(im in australia with un-rooted N1)
Right, you need to have FRF50 installed, as noted in the post
you do not have to have frf50.
try this out from 72 to 83

So how do I go from FRF72 to FRF50 so I can install this then?
You cannot, sorry.
Bah I don't want it anyway
*runs away and cries*
See my comment above...
You can indeed get to FRF83, but you'll need to go back down to ERE27, then to FRF50.
There is a link he doesn't know what he's talking about. you can go from frf72 to frf83 on a unrooted nexus i just upgraded.Look on cnet.asia for link in blogs
To get this from FRF72 just flash your phone back to the FRF50 update.zip from the original leak. Then you can do this one. I just did it. No problems.
I've seen posts from the XDA forums that people tried to 'downgrade' from FRF72 to FRF50 and were unable because the build number wasn't an incremented value.
I just tried myself. No go.

You have to go back to Shipping ROM 2.1 if you want it now. Or else, you'll have to wait for the official OTA.
Does not work. I get an error after I start the update saying error in sdcard/update.zip
(status 7)
installation aborted
Go back down to ERE27 first, then you can go back up to FRF50.
You will have to use a custom recovery image to flash ERE27, but you can flash the stock recovery image with FRF50.
Anyone notice any changes over FRF72?
I haven't noticed anything so far... Running very well though; better than FRF72 was for me.
Also, protected apps are available to download in the market now!
Kinda glad I held back on 72. I'm perfectly happy with 50.
Think I'm just gonna hold out till I get an ota.
Wont be long now!!
They're gonna publish an OTA to get folks from FRF72 to FRF83, right? Please tell me that's right!
I had current FRF72 froyo build for my Nexus. I dialed the force code *#*#2432546#*#* and I was able to get the FRF83 sent OTA
KRONIC3, could you logcat and see if you have the FRF83 from FRF72 download link?
@Kronic3
Are you being serious or just messing around? I have 72 and tried the force update. And it didnt work
just got my update OTA...was running FRF72 and the update showed up without any prompting from me.... checking it out for any changes..none found yet.
logcat for the link? please?
It might not depend on the version you are running but rather whether your phone's e.g. imei is in the range eligible for an update
Are we sure they will send a higher build that will work with 72?
Yea its official, I tried a few times to downgrade to Frf50 from Frf72 and it gives me error like you guys. I forced dialed just said checked in, nothing to lead me to the new frf83, so w have to wait...? but i thought I read some of you did that and it worked with out going all the way back to ere27??
Well, I can't report anything yet. Bcz Tmobile is having problems around my area with 3G so I can't get service unless I go into *#*#4636*#*# and change to GSM
Idk if that would help you doing the check in as how everyone else says it didnt do anything and i been checking my phones up to date area. Im in Oregon and 3g is still fine, but they mostly start any maintenance after midnight here.

update directly from frf72 to frf83
i tried it. worked fine for me.

THANK YOU! The update worked for me from FRF72 to FRF83... WooHoo!
Well shizzle, apparently now it works, Thats good though ima try and do it now!!
So it worked! Then a huge scare happened and had some problems.
My pictures wouldn't load, and some other things were not running right, But it all the sudden like 10 minutes later everything started working okay... So its back to working properly for now, maybe you guys wont have the problem but i did, just a heads up.
Froyo 2.2 Frf83. I noticed in the gallery you can hold the album with 2 fingers and card shuffle sort of speak the pictures in that album to one finger to the other without going in the album with a pinch to zoom gesture any direction you place your fingers, Its something I found accidentally. I may be the first to discover that?!! Any new stuff I will post. Let me know your findings too
jus figured out what u were talkin about !! the whole card shuffle type transition of pictures ! pretty cool !!
@otrebla pinch to zoom has been there since frf50
just got my update OTA on my nexus one in India…was running FRF72 and the update showed up without any prompting from me!!!
u serious ??? which network u on ? did u force checkin ?
im on airtel but didnt get anything pushed OTA. not even frf 50 or 72
any of you seen any noticeable changes so far ??
im still hunting...
Followed the instructions and NO problem for me I am officially FRF83 although I was hoping against hope that there would be more yummy frozen goodness. Anyone else seen anything new...
Did anybody got OTA in FRF50?
I have still build #ERE27 and I still have 2.1 I would like to update to the new stuff everyone on here is talking about. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? And can I update to the newer versions without rooting my phone?
You need to unlock your bootloader and flash a custom recovery image. Then you can load FRF50 and go to FRF83 from there.
You can find everything you need to know on the XDA-Developers forums, under the Nexus One General and Development sections.
If you have a T-Mobile Nexus One, you can read our post about getting FRF50, you don't have to unlock your bootloader or anything. Just download the FRF50 zip file, install that, then install the FRF50 to FRF83 update.
Yes, I do have a T-mobile N1. Can you send me a link to click on so I may get the FRF50 update?
@Darly- Absolutely!!!..No forced cheeckins- the ota update just dropped
... I am on Idea (Maharashtra circle) .. as for FRF72, I had done a manual update to the build about 4 weeks back
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/passion/signed-passion-FRF83-from-FRF50.38d66b26.zip
thats the link for the final update from frf50 to frf83
enjoy the sweetness that is froyo
I clicked on this link from my N1 browser, my download history came up and it says "Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone."
you cannot open it from ur fone as its a download link. open it on ur browser. download the .zip file. save it as update.zip in ur sd card root. then follow bootloader procedures
ok so I have to root my phone? if so, doesn't rooting void any warranty your phone may have on it?
the above procedure is NOT rooting your phone. you arent doing anything to the rom on ur phone. ur just "updating" it. rooting would be to remove the OS from your fone completely and install something else like the cyanogen mod, etc.
this is perfectly safe and more importantly keeps your warranty safe.
its jus like standing in a que and paying ur bills instead of doing it online
I've done my last few updates from my phone only. I download the zip using a browser link, it goes to my sdcard/downloads folder. I then use astro/esfilemanager to copy the zip to sdcard root, and rename it to update.
Ok I got to about the last step and it wont allow me to proceed... I clicked where it says apply sdcard update.zip then it says finding... opening package... verifing... then E: failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory) E: signature verification failed Installation aborted.
any ideas guys ?
It sounds like you either have the wrong from-to versions, a bad download, or the wrong phone (using t-mo version update on an att phone).
i find the build frf83 a bit choppy. less smooth to scroll through the screens.
You should try LauncherPro app. It replaces he normal Launcher (homescreen and other screens) and is MUCH faster and smoother.
here here, launcherpro is amazing
launcher pro kicks ass !!! super smooth screen transitions + 7 screens ! ftw !
adw.launcher is out control, the best one
I agree, also for my gallery, it takes like 5 seconds to load the albums, G talk takes longer to open, My latitude no longer updates automatically anymore when its enabled to. My apps dont show up (the ones I downloaded) on the market. The texting auto correct/prediction on the keyboard is not better than 2.1. and last for now is when i send or receive texts MMS and try to see the pics sent or recieved, it takes another 5-8 seconds loading them to see them.
PS. I have had LauncherPro Beta for 2 months and love it 80% better than stock.
If you are having trouble, have you tried taking out the battery for a minute or so and let things clear out of memory? If I am ever having trouble, that is what I do.
Wondering if anyone is experiencing problems with the Market since upgrading from 72 to 83.
I keep getting "Download Unsuccessful" when I try to update or download any apps.
This isn't an official froyo release yet by google?
As mentioned in Update #2 above, Google gave the FRF50 update to select people (mostly press from what we've read), but someone leaked the .zip file to the public. The FRF83 update was an official update from Google to those same initial people who got FRF50, but again, someone leaked the URL to directly download the .zip file. So technically, yes, this is an official OTA update from Google, but it is not THE official OTA update for the general public using Android 2.1 on the Nexus One.
