One of the things I love most about Android is that when one phone does especially well, it’s a benefit to the entire Android community. The more users that have Android phones in their hand, the more incentive developers have to focus on the Android platform.

In this case, the phone doing especially well is the EVO 4G, which shattered Sprint’s single day sales record, and now, is completely sold out after being on the market for only 4 days.

According to Sprint, they’re…

diligently working around the clock to increase inventory in all sales channels, including national retail partners RadioShack, Best Buy and Walmart, and indirect dealers. Additional shipments are arriving to our distribution channels on a regular basis.

So, this is good news for Sprint and the Android community, but bad news for any prospective EVO 4G owners that neglected to pre-order the phone. Anyone out there affected by the shortage? Drop us a line in the comments!

Went into the Sprint store just for giggles. Apparently, there's a deadline to pick up your phone if you're waitlisted, and somebody missed theirs, so I now have an Evo.

This worries me that the one I ordered through the Sprint Store--and already paid for--will be diverted to someone else before I can pick it up. It is "In Transit" according to the shipping tracker so I hope it actually arrives!

I work for Sprint and if you ordered it in the store and paid for it you'll be fine on getting yours. It is just the people who wanted to reserve one from the stores inventory, we allow 24 hrs and if they don't pick it up we sell it since it is in high demand.

Thanks for the Reply! I actually called my Sprint Store and got a similar assurance. I had it billed to my existing Sprint account and was worried that the charge would be reversed and the EVO sold to someone else. Fortunately, the sales staff reassured me that if I don't pick mine up, they actually have to send it back to the warehouse and *cannot* sell it to anyone else. So, I'm eagerly awaiting my EVO with much less anxiety! Thanks again for the reassurance!

I Can't get one until next Thursday! Went into the sprint store to take the evo for a spin and they didn't have a working model! Boo! BUT, the guy did tell me that his shipment would arrive on the 16th, which is when I was gonna get it anyway! He's gonna call me when it's in and is even throwing in a free case! Gonna make the guys at the office with the iphone look twice! Excited!

I was waiting to see if the new iphone came up with any cool features that I would just wait for the next HTC phone that would beat it, but it looks like the iphone 4g is just playing catchup-and not even doing a very good job at that.

I kind of want to wait to see if the Samsung Galaxy S is coming to Sprint, but I don't know if I want to wait that long to get a new one. I currently have a hero, which is great, but after using an EVO it feels about like a toy phone that you give to a 6 year old...should I wait to see about the galaxy? is the screen really THAT much better?

I have those exact feelings about the Hero - such a toy.

The Galaxy's screen is smaller than EVO's - what are you talking about?

As far as iPhone 4, I still think it's a very sexy phone, but indeed, Apple is playing catch-up now. We got them right where we want them.

I am one of the suckers that didn't pre-order (still falling for the instant gratification of buying from the store).

I've been to 3 Sprint (corporate) stores and got a cold shoulder...got better responses from Best Buy (they offered to put me in one of their next-shippment list), guaranteeing that I wouldn't get it until after the 15th.

Radio Shack, on the other hand, offered to order it and have it delivered to my home. But I could have done that from Amazon.

So, who is going to sell me my EVO? Walmart!

I get mine, this coming friday.

Went in to a Sprint store Saturday and got wait listed. Somehow the store ended up with 10 extras today.

Got a call this (Monday) evening to come in before they close (it was an hour to close). I got mine but I am glad I rushed as they sold those 10 within a half hour.

Sprint says it overstated EVO launch day sales.

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Yeah, seriously, who the heck releases a glorifying PR like that with mistakes this huge?

"We originally reported that the total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was three times the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined. We inadvertently erred in the comparison. The total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was in line with the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined. "

I got my EVO on launch without a preorder. Lucky I guess. I'm in love with this phone and Android. It rocks.
