If You Don’t Know What To Do With Your Bricked EVO 4G, Take It To A Sprint Corporate Store
3

HTC and Sprint are working together to accommodate EVO 4G owners whose phones were bricked after this week’s initial update. Without adding very much detail, HTC stated that Sprint Corporate stores can be of service. You can find the closest store using this tool.

If You Don’t Know What To Do With Your Bricked EVO 4G, Take It To A Sprint Corporate Store

If you have already updated successfully and your phone boots up fine, you don't have to do anything. If you haven't applied the OTA update yet, you can now safely do so, as the bricking issue has been fixed.

If, however, the initial update made your phone go blank or get stuck in a ...

Canadians Get In On The Galaxy S Action With Bell's Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant
0

Samsung’s plan for world smartphone domination seems to be going smoothly. After the news that their Galaxy S would be launching on all major US carriers (as well as US Cellular), it has just been announced that the phone will also be launching on Bell, Canada’s second-largest cell phone carrier, as the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant (just Samsung Vibrant wasn't enough, eh buddies?).

Canadians Get In On The Galaxy S Action With Bell's Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant

The specs are, of course, similar to the Galaxy S models that have already been announced for US carriers:

  • 4.0” Super AMOLED screen
  • 1 GHz Hummingbird processor
  • 5 megapixel camera
  • and Android 2.1 with Samsung’s TouchWiz

It’s probably going to be a little messy, and it certainly isn’t going to be perfect. That said, CyanogenMod 6 Alpha 1 is available for Nexus One users now. Download it below…

Disclaimer: This is an ALPHA release (PRE-Experimental Release) and will likely have numerous glitches, app compatibility issues, and all sorts of fun quirks that haven’t been ironed out by the CyanogenMod team yet.

TV and movie geeks alike are bound to be giddy with joy today as IMDB has released their official (and free) Android app to the Android Market. We’ve provided a few screens for you take a look at below.

Overall, the app appears fully functional, and actually quite useful. You’re able to look up TV recaps, schedules, box office results, local showtimes, and movie reviews. Pressing your phone’s search button will bring up the search bar set for IMDB, eliciting results just like IMDB.com’s web-based search.

This is a truly useful app, and yet another example of how ...

In an AndroidPolice exclusive, a tipster has provided us reliable information that Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google (GOOG), has recently become an investor in the 3rd party mobile app distributor PocketGear. What does this mean? It seems most likely that Schmidt, and perhaps Google itself, are looking to see if PocketGear can provide a suitable distribution platform for Android apps. It looks to be classic Google strategy; invest early, foster growth, and if all goes well, acquire. While Schmidt and Google itself are not entities of completely parallel financial interests, Schmidt is the man in charge, and it is ...

Samsung Galaxy S Launch Event Recap, Photos, And Q&A
    9
    Last Updated: July 23rd, 2010

Last night, Samsung officially announced their Galaxy S smartphone family at a swank New York City party after several weeks of blurrycam shots, spec sheets and rumors. Spanning all four major US carriers - Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile - the Galaxy S flavors stand to be a surging juggernaut in the HTC dominated Android world.

Incidentally, I was at the event and had the pleasure of doing a live blogging session, followed by some hands-on time with all the phones.

Get The HTC EVO 4G From Sprint.com For $150 ($50 Off)
    0

If you're in the market for a new phone or are looking to buy an EVO 4G specifically, the deal I just found on Fatwallet may be exactly what you needed.

The regular price of the phone at Sprint.com is $199 after a mail-in rebate, compared to places like Best Buy that will replace the mail-in rebate with an instant one. However, you can get an extra $50 off if you buy it from Sprint.

    Positives And Negatives

    • Positive: $50 off
    • Negative:
      • You have to deal with a $100 mail-in rebate instead of an instant $100 discount at

Cyanogen of CyanogenMod posted an update to his website earlier this evening on that status of and potential timeline for CyanogenMod 6. Key points below:

    • Will support Nexus One and Droid first, Dream/Sapphire shortly thereafter, and Slide a little later
    • Desire, Incredible, and EVO 4G will all be supported eventually (read: No ETA)
    • First experimental build expected to be available this weekend
    • Small incremental update to CyanogenMod 5 will also appear this weekend

This is big news, as CyanogenMod 6, a custom ROM, is based on the Android 2.2 Froyo source code. Its predecessor, CyanogenMod 5, runs on ...

Earlier this morning we posted a hilarious video made by tinywatchproductions depicting an average iPhone user fanboy - the one who mindlessly gobbles up everything Steve and AT&T say and buys every iPhone just because it's an iPhone. Admit it - you know a few people like that.

Now in a comeback video, the same tinywatchproductions came up with a few things an iPhone user could counter with in a conversation with a mindless EVO 4G fan (do those exist?). This video is done in the same machine text-to-speech voiceover format as the first one, which makes it so funny....

Though yesterday’s OTA update for the HTC EVO ended abruptly when it was reported that some EVOs were being bricked, it seems that it is now being rolled out once more. The update is a little larger than yesterday’s (30MB vs 23MB), but it seems nothing else has been changed (with the exception of phones not being bricked.)

Just like those who successfully received the update yesterday, users receiving the update today are reporting better battery lives, improved Exchange Active Sync, and, more noticeably, much improved Wi-Fi signal strength. Of course, it still does not fix the 30 fps ...

An unnamed source at Boy Genius Report today provided a tip that Verizon is planning to begin its 4G LTE network rollout in 25 markets on November 15th, 2010. Some interesting details emerged from the tip - most of them good. To summarize:

    • 4G LTE data plans will be tiered by data caps, but will not add a premium to your bill. Presumably this means the caps will be combined 3G/4G usage (you listening, Sprint/EVO/$10?).
    • The 25 markets scheduled for coverage will encompass over 100 million potential subscribers.
    • A “slew” of 4G phones will be released on Black Friday, November

Cisco announced earlier today that they are in the process of developing an Android-powered tablet, dubbed Cius, for the business market.

Cisco was careful to assert the tablet’s role as a tool for professional users, rather than a media-oriented consumer device. Clearly Cisco is attempting to get to the office before the iPad gains traction in this sector, and by the looks of the Cius, they may succeed. The mock-up of the device, shown below, is fairly interesting. It sports a 7” screen around a large bevel with a sizable external speaker (presumably for conferencing purposes). The standard Android hardware ...

MyDroidWorld founder p3droid is reporting that he has obtained an official Google update of Android 2.2 dubbed FRF84B. The version proximity to the Nexus One’s official Froyo update (FRF85B) is certainly uncanny. Based on the large file size, it appears to be a full ROM. Unfortunately, no official Google link for the client is available, only p3droid’s rooted (read: now technically unofficial) version. The update comes with superuser permissions for root only apps, as well. It is available for download below.
