Another HTC Phone Hits The FCC – Slider With Keyboard and Optical Trackpad

Well it is about time for another Android phone leak, it has been almost a week or so since the last one.

This time we have a new HTC phone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, the standard navigation buttons and also an optical trackpad. Everything looks pretty standard about this phone aesthetically speaking. As for the hardware hidden inside, not a lot is known about it yet.

HTC Desire Root Instructions + Apps2SD Now Live

Yesterday, we reported on an exciting announcement for all HTC Desire owners - @PaulOBrien managed to root the device and promised detailed instructions to be posted today.

Well, he's backed the promise up with action and as of this morning, full instructions have been posted.

Paul notes that HTC made it much harder to access key partitions and write any data to them, compared to, say, the Nexus One. This made the process of rooting extremely complicated and left it a quite crippled (he's still working on uncrippling it).

Andy Rubin, VP of Engineering at Google, recently gave an interview to the New York Times, touching on topics ranging from Flash to North Korea. With Google vying for top place in the smartphone market, Rubin seemed confident that Android devices can overtake the number of iPhones, saying

Mozilla Firefox For Android (Fennec) Pre-Alpha Available For Android 2.0+ Devices, Looks Very Promising

Mozilla’s mobile version of Firefox, codenamed Fennec, is now available to download for Android 2 users.

Vladimir Vukićević, a developer at Mozilla, posted an update on his blog yesterday informing users about the progress that the project is making. Although this is still a pre-alpha build of Fennec, it gives a good idea of how the browser will look and feel as it continues to mature. HTC Desire didn't last long - it was rooted (see here for an explanation and benefits of having your Android phone rooted) today by @PaulOBrien, the founder of MoDaCo.com - a forum dedicated to rooting and customizing mobile devices, similar to xda-developers.com.

Paul, who had claimed he was confident he could root the Desire earlier this month, was away for about 2 weeks. His return today was accompanied by the following photo, clearly showing a program called Superuser Permissions present on his Desire:

Updated: It Was A Prank - First Android on iPhone 2G, Now CyanogenMod On iPhone 3GS?!

Details are being kept internally between team members right now but what we do know is that the CyanogenMod has been ported onto an iPhone 3GS.

Everyone is pretty tight lipped for now but this seems so far to be legitimate, as one of the team members has confirmed the port is working via twitter.

It was only a few days ago when reports surfaced of the Android OS having been ported onto the iPhone 2G which was crazy enough to hear but now the advent of CyanogenMod on the 3GS is almost downright insane.

Google Buys LabPixies – Shows More Commitment To Gaming On Android

If you haven't heard yet, HTC has been developing a new flavor of its own flavor ~~of another flavor~~ of Android called Espresso.

Vodafone Launches Nexus One In The UK

Yesterday, Vodafone announced that UK customers can pre-order the Nexus One which is going to be available in the UK from this Friday, April 30th. This comes after the company told customers that the phone would be available in ‘a few short weeks’ way back at CES.

The phone will be available for free on various plans starting from £35 a month on a 24 month contract. The most interesting part of this is that consumers can purchase it directly from Vodafone either online or in store, deviating once again from Google’s plan of allowing consumers to mix and match ...
