Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-X10_150

As the title states, it has just come to light that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will not be getting multitouch as was previously mentioned. In fact at first it was stated it would not be getting multitouch, then it was and now, yet again, it is not and that is the final word on it.

It seems that some companies are really having trouble relaying information these days.

Final Word On Multitouch

Sony Ericsson's Communications Manager Harold de Kort gives the final word about multitouch and the Xperia X10:

Multi-touch will not be a feature in future updates for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 because the device does not support multi-touch due to her software and hardware configuration. The operation and user experience of the phone will be further improved and Sony Ericsson will come with her own intuitive way of, for example, zooming in and out.

Multitouch, a basic feature that pretty much every other Android phone on the market can easily support out of the box, seems like a no-brainer these days, but Sony Ericsson's product design team didn't seem to think so. Add that to the fact that it's already been 5 months since the product announcement, and it hasn't even been released in the US, and you got yourself quite a disaster.

However, it will be interesting to see how exactly the company will compensate for the lack of multitouch and what kind of "zooming in and out" solution they will come up with.

With the HTC EVO, Samsung Galaxy S, and the Incredible on the horizon, is anyone even considering buying this phone anyways?

    Oh, come on! Exaggerate much?

I have one, it's a brilliant device. Who really cares about multitouch? Why use two fingers when you can use just one??

Because pinch and zoom gives you a much better control of what to zoom on and how fast than a +/- zoom button. It's a hit with Apple's devices for a reason.

i do agree with rob, its beautiful piece of creation and personally i didn't feel multi touch as a shortcoming on this device. xperia x10 rocks!!!!!

Bought it like 3 weeks ago. Can see its shortcomings. Now about Galaxy and Evo - I wouldn't buy, but wait for Cassandra with 5G. Seriously don't compare real stuff with unreleased models

I was considering this phone when my contract ended.

TBH I'm glad I went with an HTC Desire considering the Xperia doesn't have multitouch, and only ships with Android 1.6
